There isn't an old chuch there.

There is an old Chapel of Rest.

Before double galzing, it's where they sorted out the stiffs.

Wasn't the chapel of rest on the left hand side (going towards Union Rd) I think it was near a bridge. At least I remember when my dad died(1976), he was in a chapel of rest there

They have an interesting car park, have you ever tried to park on it?

This google ariel view indicates that it is on 'the land behind Catlow Hall St'
Accrington BB5 3BT, United Kingdom - Google Maps

which appears to be up for sale - see thread
http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/f...eet-58194.html

Land for sale in Stone Bridge Lane, Oswaldtwistle, Accrington, Lancashire BB5, BB5
"The land fronts Stone Bridge Lane to its southern boundary and was formerly occupied by Rhyddings Works. Parts of the works have now been demolished"

The logical conclusion is that it is owned by the same man who owns Rhyddings mill and can't afford to demolish it (allegedly)

Re: Old church on Stone Bridge Lane

The Chapel of Rest was next to where the garage is now, just over the bridge.

I suppose there was a church, on the land at the side of the old Continental bakery.

Of course I wasn't wrong.

I just don't count buildings where they talk in tongues as churches.

:D
