New Ossy Petrol Station!

The petrol station at Badge Brow has had planning permission to re-open it says in the oberver. Does anyone remember the original Total Badge Brow Garage that opened there in the late 1960's

Hurray!
Petrol in Ossy again.
Won't have to waste money/petrol driving to Accy to fill up my car. :)

got to agree with you there garinda, its a pain ,having to go into town, especially if your going to blackburn as i do quite often.

Are you sure its the Badge Brow one? I thought from reading it that it was the one near New Lane. It mentions that it is currently a car repair business, its near a mini roundabout and next to a blind bend.

Yes, but are you sure it's that one, did the article in the "Obs" not mention a roundabout, I was thinking it was the one at the top of ossy. Cllr Walmsley is quoted as saying......."Lancashire County Council has created more accidents on that stretch by creating silly roundabouts" Strange the Planning Committee disregarded the "Officers" recommendations, for a No. Plus I thought the owner of "ossy mills" bought the Badge Brow site, they are using it as a car park, and there are no mini roundabouts there  . If it is the site above the Black Dog, then it's not been in use for several years as a petrol station, and I would think that the existing petrol tank installation does not meet present day regulations

Thought it did, so it is the one just past the New Lane turn off. The Obs quoted it as having been open in 2003, I think it was little before that, more like 10 years or more ago. So why did the planning committee over-rule the "Officers" of the council and grant planning permission, traffic wise it is a very bad area, is our Cllr Walmsley saying here that the traffic calming measures have caused an accident black spot. May be he know's better than the technical officers of HBC.

Re: New Ossy Petrol Station!

Yes it's the one at Moor End, which used to be called Moony's. They told my Ma when she was having her car serviced there in December they wanted to sell petrol again. Like someone else said Badge Brow is now one of Ossy Mill's many, many carparks.

The reason l went for petrol to the garage on Blackburn Rd. Accy, was that it's quicker than waiting to get through Church traffic lights, and l go a secret, special way. :)

But the park gates are chained up and closed :) So you would sooner drive over them there humps in the road than wait for the traffic lights:) Lol

Re: New Ossy Petrol Station!

I looks as though I was wrong with the location. On reading the Observer again it does look like is the Moor End one. I am glad it is that one and not the other.

I wonder if it will re-open as a Fina so I can collect green shield stamps again :)

Re: New Ossy Petrol Station!

As my previous post, I can't understand why the planning committee went against the recommendation of the planning officers of the council.

Neil 10-04-2005 13:17

Re: New Ossy Petrol Station!

I think it must be because there is no petrol station in Ossy. It is not always convenient to travel somewhere else for fuel. I for one pass the Black Dog every day on my way to work. As far as being near to the bend, did accidents used to happen when it was the old Fina station?

Can't comment on that one, but Cllr Walmsley seems to think since LCC put the "silly" roundabouts in, there have been accidents.;)

Neil 10-04-2005 13:32

Re: New Ossy Petrol Station!

That is because a large number of drivers approaching the roundabout from Stanhill way don't even look up New Lane. Like I say I use New Lane for work 6 days a week and have almost been hit coming down New Lane onto the roundabout several times. Brian's silly roundabout is a good idea, it's the drivers who don't know how to use it that cause the problems.

Will agree with you there, another problem is that some drivers forget they have indicators, so sometimes if you are at the bottom of new lane waiting to turn right, you don't know if a car coming up union road is going to turn up new lane or go straight on, some do turn at the last minute with no indication that they are turning up new lane, leaving you a bit miffed at missing the chance to go.

Re: New Ossy Petrol Station!

One of my pet hates is drivers that don't know they have indicators, or what they are for. With some many mini roundabouts it's imperative people use them, and that people should be aware that you do still have to give way to cars from the right.

Perhaps they should start doing public information films on tv again like they diid in the 70's.

'Charlie says............. always give way to the traffic from the right, use your indicators....... and never talk to strangers!'

There is no think about it. What makes these cllr's expert on planning issues anyway. Obviously he has no sense about safe parking or he would not park onthe footpath on a bend. He must not care about his voters who have a pram and a small child's hand to hold while trying to get past his big numb Shogun.

Having sat in on a planning committee meeting, they are far from being experts. The Cllr in question insisted that HBC did not need planning permission for the play area light, but was proved wrong when a copy of the Town & Country Planning Act was produced, ref. "Permitted Development by a Local Authority" He was most :o

We should open a Texaco Petrol Station with Subway/Spar on the Badge Brow Petrol Station site, and a Esso Petrol Station on both Spar and Tesco Express sites.

Re: New Ossy Petrol Station!

The last person to run the Badge Brow site as a car dealer was a chap called Craig Burt, trading under the name Burt and Harris. I bought a 1974 Triumph GT6 sports car from him, it was 5 months old with 1300 miles on the clock and great motor. He went bust a year or two later and did a runner. I still have his invoice for the car along with all the twenty odd others I owned over the years.

Ossy Mills has this land up for sale ... I suspect that it will not sell is due to the contamination of spilt petrol over the years. Would cost quite a bit of money to put it back to normal.

You need to explain that to the dark chap in a Audi who passed my on the wrong side of the mini roundabout on Fielden lane and High street this afternoon. I was going round on the right side, which is clockwise and he just drove on the other side and away up Broadfield.

Think I have asked this question before, when the petrol station was shut down and Ossy Mills started using it for staff parking, were the underground tanks "de-gassed" and filled with cement slurry, or is every one round there sitting on a "time bomb", if the tanks are empty they will be full of "explosive gas"

Sad to say that there are a lot about, sat that low in the car seat clutching a mobile phone you can just about see them, they tend to go on the wrong side of traffic islands to overtake, or race through west end at 50+

I didn't call him that jaysay, but had to cool it a bit because my wife was sitting in the car.
What made it worse was that there was a horse and rider coming down towards us and a car was passing that not fifty yards away.
