How can a site set up as such cater for all?

I'm on 800x600, and I can only see half the screen with scrolling left to right, it's so annoying and so many web sites are set up like it now. Am I the only one who's still got a 800x600 res olution set up?

1280 x 1024 is how I have both my home set up and my work one.

I don't know how people can look at a 800 x 600 res but I bet you're not the only one Madhatter

Any site that optimises for any resolution or for any browsers is going against the whole concept of the WWW being for everyone.

How can you work in 800x600? :o

I have to have 1280x1024 or bigger lol :p

Older equipment... new equipment with limited screens, bad eyesight, personal preference.. lots of reasons to be in 800 but the biggest one for a website as per this thread is that not everyone wants to use there whole screen on the website and may want multiple windows open on a big workspace..

plus reasons I cant think of...

well, can you explain why I shouldn't be able to work in 800x 600. it looks fine to me. It's only recently sites have been swapping so i've got to scroll. TBH i don't know if this monitor can, when I tried setting it up, it would only work in 800 x 600 so I left it. But the Question still stand if its optimised at to cater for all user surely that would be 800x600 not 1280 x 1024 because as kipax says there are lots of people for lots of reasons that have 800x600.

Well the reason I can't work in 800x600 isnt purly because of websites, I tend to have lots of windows open and specialy msn ones, with msn 1window seems to take nearly the entire screen, and I like to be able to multitask ..
But yeah, if a website is supposed to be optimised for all users it should be lowest res, but most websites nowadays feel that the 'user experience' would be greater enhanced by a larger size I guess.... because it does feel easier having to scroll less (since much more info is on a webpage nowadays) :p

Go for a two monitor setup mate, one for MSN and one for serious work.

2 monitor setup is a godsend.... i sometimes wish for 3 and 4 :)

Cyfr your killing your own argument.. if you want multiple widows open then you dont want pages made to your full screen size....

Are you using 2 video cards or one with 2 outputs? I was tempted to try it, I had 2 matching 21" CRT's and they would have looked good next to each other. One of them recently died so i can't try it now.

Two video cards is the best As far as I know .. However I use a laptop with monitor, KB and mouse plugged in and to all intents and purposes this is the same as everyone elses computer... I then plug a monitor into back of laptop and have duel screens... It really does make life a lot easier.

If I was to use a desktop system i would deffo go for another vid card.. they must be cheap unuff nowerdays...

I was more refering to I use a resolution of 1280x1024 and webpages are usualy smaller, so I can do more things at once

run 1400 x 1024 at work on one laptop, 1280 x 768 on another, my lappy is 1280 x 800 widescreen but back to original discussion, my new phone is wifi enabled and renders web pages in full screen so anything optimised for a res above 800x600 will look silly.

I too run many windows but use a piece of software to simulate multiple desktops on windows(Linux/unix deals with it with the X windows system.

Mate whos a contractor has a 3 screen setup running 2048 x 1280 on EACH screen. still ore money than sense....Actually change that, more money than me :)

This forum works fine on 800x600 so does burnley but blackpool is annoying, dunno if its the newest version but i don't see why a forum needs to be. It's just words really isn't it.
I don't really understand why you need multi monitors or how they work, do they have their own keyboard and mouse, how do you switch between which one your using, and why does it make it better? but please try to explain so i can understand.

I just tried a few websites on my sons PSP and there all too wide... reemeber people not everyone uses a PC to access the internet... S
