Re: broadband?

I was with Pipex for nearly 5 years, faultless service, only switched because I get free BB from Orange due to my mobile contract. £25/month wasn't to be sneezed at

maxwell silver 01-11-2006 19:23

Re: broadband?

I'm on NTL.First 12 months @ £9.99 & now up to £17.99.:(

K.S.H 01-11-2006 19:23

Re: broadband?

Pipex, about 4 year, £23 a month, not gonna say no problems cause thats just asking for trouble :)
But i'll say quietly,
no trouble what so ever, highly recommend them

Re: broadband?

I have broadband here in Spain which costs me around 25 quid a month. It's so much better than dial up. As my computer is on 24/7 for the UkNova site, I couldn't do without it.

Margaret Pilkington 01-11-2006 19:30

Re: broadband?

I'm still on dial up......my computer is antiquated and due for upgrading soon....I MAY go broadband then....but then again I may not. I don't do a lot of downloading.......and I can't see the sense in going for something that I won't get the use of.

AccyJay 01-11-2006 19:33

Re: broadband?

TalkTalk - £20.99 per month. Calls to all UK landlines (01 / 02 numbers) & 28 other countries are free.

Not too bad. Broadband disconnects on it's own about once a day. I can live with this, because my pc is usually on all day.

:)

AOHELL - that says it all.

Re: broadband?

Virgin.... terribly unreliable, constant speed changes even on their top package, and they keep saying its a problem on our end (which it isn't me being well up on computers, dad knowing basic networking and an uncle who's job is networking ) used to be on bulldog with faultless service.

andrewb 01-11-2006 21:21

Re: broadband?

Bulldog (though the customer base are now owned by Pipex)

Im a pipex customer on the bulldog network, im unsure if actual new 'Pipex' customers are connected to the Bulldog (faster, more bandwidth) network..

Re: broadband?

BT Hub ( moved back to them after I was messed around Big Style with Tiscali) works fine so far, having said that I can only get 1mg so not so good...
I have problems with the hub phone line ( not got the hub phone yet, they have ran out) when anyone calls me all three phones ring at once and carry on even if you have picked up...

garinda 09-11-2006 17:19

Re: broadband?

Tiscali broadband £15.99/month.

No real problems, though you do wonder how you ever managed with dial up when you've changed to broadband.

I used to smoke a fag waiting for Accy Web to load, so there's an extra saving for a start.:D

aol plat for 24.99 month,no faults yet as we had with tiscali they were taking 2 l;ots of money each month from us,we only noticed 6 months later and when we asked for our money back they said that they would give us 12.50 off our bill each month cheeky gits

Kisser 10-11-2006 09:23

Re: broadband?

I'm on NTL too - its £17.99 a month which I think is a bit steep. But have no choice really, as the phone and the tv are all NTL.

WillowTheWhisp 10-11-2006 09:49

Re: broadband?

What sort of deal do you get with the phone/TV and internet being all NTL? Do you still pay seperately for each and do you get any free calls?

AOL Platinum £24.99 a month with up to 8MB download. I can have upto 6 PC'S online at one time. I currently have 3 online and connected.

entwisi 13-11-2006 09:49

Re: broadband?

only 6? If you are behind a router it will be difficult for them to tell how many as routers naturally 'hide' teh local IPs of any PCs

Re: broadband?

I'm with UK Online, £24.99 a month for a 2mb connection and unlimited uploads/downloads, it runs really smoothly (touch wood!)

We're thinking of changing but a friend of mine was without t'internet for over a week when they changed. Could I cope? No, so Busman will be in charge of that while I go on holiday! :D

Re: broadband?

Plusnet: Broadband Your Way on a 8M link. Four options.

Option 1: £9.99/mth includes 1G of traffic. Can buy more.
Option 2: £14.99 includes 8G of traffic

I downgraded to Option 1 as I use between 1&2Gig/mth.
For new users, there's a 90day trial. It's free to switch in.
And it's free if you leave within the 90 days.

The USwitch website recommends them. If you're feeling kind mention 'jacana' as the referrer (that's me).

do you already have sky tv?just wondering why so cheap

Re: broadband?

I hate sky we enquired about the see, speak, surf package and asked if we get a new box because we are entering into a new 12 month contract and they said oh yes you get a new box, they sent the broadband and it was the worst we just had problem after problem with them we called them to find out where the new box was and the lady said what new box your not getting a new box because you are an existing customer daddiboo said well what happens if my box breaks after the first month they said well you will have to buy a new one!

She said the offer is only for new customers only he said well what if i cancel and re-start she said well you will have to use your old box, he said well what if i cancel and re start in my partners name and she was cheeky enough to say well it still wont be your box it will be your partners box wont it (oh my god now thats what i call customer service!).

He got nowhere with that call!

A couple of days later a summary of costs came and as far as daddiboo was told from sky it was going to cost him £36 a month the £26 advertised see, speak, surf and £10 to add sky sports when the sumary came through they wanted £62 set up fee and then nearly £60 a month as they had just set us up for the top package on everything even though we didnt want that so we promptly called them and told them to cancel it all and we will go somewhere else!!

The customer service with sky is naff when we first got it the kids were messing with the remote and ordered a few films to start at the same time but all on different channels when we got the bill and called them they basically said well tough not our problem you still have to pay even though we pointed out that we phisically cannot watch all these films on different channels at the same time!! we ended up paying im sick of getting ripped off by people!

KIPAX 13-07-2007 10:00

Re: broadband?

my changeover was perfectly simple and sky was a great help... i am an existing customer...

I ahve changed broadband supply a number of times ..been on broadband for years.. was the second person in accy to get it.. i know that because in them days bt had to come out and install it for you and they told me i was only the 2nd they had ever done... I got it on cheap to freeish trial for about 6 mths before it was released...

anyways quite a few providors later and now on sky.. it was the easiest changeover of them all... had it ages and works perfectly...

as with everything in life.. someone will have a horror story... my good experience might be the odd one out... dunno..

I was on Homecall which is now pipex I get Broadband and free 90 min (hang up and redial if U need longer) phone calls 24/7 to national landlines for £25 + line rental is cheaper than BT.
But what Ps me off is when downloading torrents it still never exceeds 60kbs anyone know why that is ?
Apart from that its not bad but changing is such a pain anyway.
I don`t have sky. Who needs that much TV when half your life goes on Accyweb ?

is it 60 kbps or 60 kBps(the size of teh B matters). Its all down to bandwidth shaping. Basically ISPs know what port numbers that P2P uses and 'restrict' that traffic so it doesn't cause other users problems. Its all stated in their 'fair use policies'

Zero 17-07-2007 21:31

It`s a big B what`s the diff ?
Should I randomise port each time Utorrent starts ?
Fair use policies ?

entwisi 17-07-2007 21:52

Re: broadband?

little b = bits
big B = bytes, 8 bits make 1 byte (4 bits make a nibble believe it or not)

60KBps is ~ a 512KByte line.

No point in trying to get round it, they are cleverer than that.

Fair use policies - Yep, all that small print you skipped before siging up
