Got one of those e-mails that go around warning you of the dangers of this telephone directory, re. privacy, cold calls, abuse to children, etc., and how you can opt out of it ... reading the FAQS don't quite see it this way. They don't even give the enquirer your number, just try initially to put you in touch, and if not available at the time, send the person you wish to get in touch with a message.

Costs you £1 to do this .. but eh ... if important, suppose worth it.

Just wondered if anyone had been the recipient of such a call and what you thought about it ?

I'm on 'Pay as you Go', so presume will not affect me (not that it would bother me mind you ...)

i checked first to see if they had mine ... and when it turned out they did .. i then filled in the form for ex directory ...

The service is down at the moment - probably inundated with people trying to get their numbers taken off the list.

I'm in a slightly tricky position here because my phone is my work number as well, so if people need to contact me for work, that's the one I give out - as people who know me will testify, I'm rarely without it. However, I don't give it out unless I expect people to ring me.

I'm also a bit bothered about people having access to Maddie's number!!!!

I recall you once had a nasty phone stalker. In your position I would not hesitate to go ex-directory. Reasonable employers would appreciate your need to do so.

I was fortunate and he wasn't so nasty to me, it was Romps who had it worst - but yes, that is in the back of my mind when I think about my number being so easily available.

Sorry Margaret .... did search, but not well enough obviously. It was just that the E-mail was quite scaremongering, which I didn't think warranted it without searching out the facts.

Service still down .. yes, reckon are being inundated.

I think before you yourself go ex. have to think of risk assessment. You may miss opportunities if people cannot find you.

I sppose its not as bad with pay as you go you can either not bother registering your sim card or simply register with a bogus name

im on pay as you go ... according to their website they've bought them from other companies ... so if you've given someone your phone number theres a good chance you will be on there ...

This service still not back on course .. looks like having problems with the doubters still.

In the meantime, don't you just hate those 118 118 adverts ... those two guys turn my stomach ... :s_sick: Having said that, have taken a closer look .. do you think they are women ?

Think this description is correct Jaysay ... looked at some videos on You Tube, changed my mind about them being women in disguise. Don't think they have used the same actors all the time either. Certainly not good specimens of mankind .. :) Know I shouldn't personally criticize really, but the way they have them jogging and the false moustaches and wigs just makes me feel a little quesy .. just a gut and involuntary reaction I suppose.
