I believe these new fangled mobiles take photos, videos and play music and must always be used in places like doctors or hospital waiting rooms for telling others who are sat minding their own business that they are sat in a waiting room hoping for another months sick note.
I still practice the black art of sending Morse code to communicate with friends around the world at no cost other than the initial outlay of the radio gear.

Bring back the hand looms and kids up chimneys, horse drawn brewery drays the rag mans trumpet and streets full of people trudging to work every day.

What actually makes me smile more than anything is the fact that people actually say I don't know what I'd do without my mobile, I remember the times when if you wanted to make a phone call when away from home you had to search for a red box, that hadn't been vandalised:D

What would you do all day without your TV and internet?

Thats some of what I use my phone for, not TV much but internet ( I do a lot of modding on here using my phone when I get reports emailed to my phone), email, texts, music, calendar, the clock as I dont even own a watch, alarm clock, the odd game, photos both at home and work, videos of the kids being stupid, sat nav sometimes and even the odd phone call. Probably other things I have forgotton as well.

For me a mobile phone is not just for phone calls

I was talking about the good old days, when you didn't have a choice Neil, but the world seemed to carry on and didn't come to a standstill, hell if mobile phones were taken of the earth people wouldn't be able to exist, yet its only 15 years or saw when mobiles were unheard of to your ordinary Joe Public

I'm with you on this one, as I rarely use mine.

Mainly when on holiday, to phone home. Saves messing with bills, or coins.

They are handy for emergencies too. If I remember to take it with me, the next time I'm planning an emergency.

People bang on about the erosion of freedom, but are quiet happy to carry a 24/7 tracking device with them at all times.

If you ever see me anywhere, telling someone I'm sat outside Greggs, asking someone else where they're sat, shoot me.

:D

I tramped the country driving a tanker and a mobile phone would have mad my job a lot easier. Priority was getting digs, making sure I was booked in. I would find a phone box and discover the handset had been pulled off the wall or the dial was smashed, then off to find another one, hoping I could park without getting booked. Then there was the matter of ringing back to Shell where I worked to tell them I was either empty or the customer couldn't fit the oil in the tanks. The down side was the firm could ring me and give me another job just when I though I was parking up early. I admit that when we did get cab fitted phones, all hands free it was easier. I still have my firts mobile phone which I held on and it is a Motorola with a flip front and a little antenna, the sim card is in a credit card sized plastic card and the whole lot slides into a slot under the phone. It still works but has to be on charge all the time as the battery is US.

Some do I suppose but they are too busy making all the gruel and turning over the sheets to bother.

A old mate of mine, many years older, told me that the company used to send a telegram to the digs to book beds in advance for the drivers. Even the digs didn't all have a landline. I see you know your full stops from your question marks .-.-.-

mainly use mine to text people ... but 99% of the time i have mine with me .. simple reason is because you never know when it needed ... especially as i have ICE in mine ... for the uniniatated ... In Case of Emergency ... supposedly ambulance persons or nurses and doctors at Accident and Emergency know about this .. and can ring a contact number .. ie your next of kin ... in case anything happens to you .. and you are not able to tell them who to contact.

For those who dont know about it ... all you do is put ICE and then the contacts name and their phone number in ...

You must be into old things, my new fangled phone has an ice app, on the main screen is a big icon saying ice: press for emergency info and contacts. It shows who to call and medical info like nhs number and medication you are on. It shows any medical conditions you have, you could list mingingitus :p :D
