Re: on ta barge down cut!
The photograph on your right is certanly of the Leeds -Liverpool canal. However, its not in Church or anywhere in Hyndburn, for that matter. Some of you who are of a literary bent may well have come accross it before; it is in fact, Wigan Pier, as per Orwell (the pier was actually a ramp for tipping coal into barges). The picture wa used on one of the Penguin editions a few years back. The building which is vaguely visible in the background and which looks like a Church is in fact Trencherfield Mill, which still stands.

Bloody hell, "down Cut" it's been a long time since I've heard that expression. Fantastic Photos once again Staggers, you should get an album going in the gallery......I can remember in the mid 1960s two Iron Barges half sunk and tied up along the bank just before the bridge.

CAN REMEMBER WHEN MI DAD GOT TWO 56 GALLON BARrels and welded them together when we lived over bridge street, made two paddles out of pallett latts and spent a many happy hour on ta cut!
