a couple of owd photos of the canal dont know the where abouts but interesting,the 1st shows two chaps having a deserved break, the second is wondering how the hell does he jump that on his bike? anyone got any ideas where they are?

don't know where they are staggeringman but have a strange feeling ive seen the second one when i was young,but can't think where, i am nearly sure its not too far away,my lass remembers it too,so suspect its church area, brilliant photo's by the way.would love to know the answer.

The photograph on your right is certanly of the Leeds -Liverpool canal. However, its not in Church or anywhere in Hyndburn, for that matter. Some of you who are of a literary bent may well have come accross it before; it is in fact, Wigan Pier, as per Orwell (the pier was actually a ramp for tipping coal into barges). The picture wa used on one of the Penguin editions a few years back. The building which is vaguely visible in the background and which looks like a Church is in fact Trencherfield Mill, which still stands.

Bloody hell, "down Cut" it's been a long time since I've heard that expression. Fantastic Photos once again Staggers, you should get an album going in the gallery......I can remember in the mid 1960s two Iron Barges half sunk and tied up along the bank just before the bridge.

CAN REMEMBER WHEN MI DAD GOT TWO 56 GALLON BARrels and welded them together when we lived over bridge street, made two paddles out of pallett latts and spent a many happy hour on ta cut!

bloody hell tealeaf nice one ive actually bin in trencherfield mill many years ago, is that where the 2nd photo is also ive definatly seen that rusty old metal object many years ago,but as ive spent most time on the cut between intack and burnley i assumed thats were i'd seen it,memorys are very vague on the subject.
