This was the dance hall on Knowlmere St which was called The Arcadian Ballroom by the mid-50s and was then run by Cliff and his wife. Butts may have been short for butterworth's. My aunt puts a post-war date on it. I suspect it was pre-war too.The oplace was "th'Arc" to us - a place more refined than Joe Mort's and more upmarket than the dances held in church rooms such as Christ Church

madam harkers school of dancing church st accrington facing what is now the warners arms was a popular place saturday night you went up a flight of steps and madam harker herself selected the music she worked the record player mostly teenagers just learning to dance and you had to behave yourself no alcoholic drinks served there other times she taught ballet
