Re: Hargreaves Arms - got a new name
I seem to remember they changed the name a few years ago, and then changed it back again to the Hargreaves Arms. I can't remember what name they changed it to.

Re: Hargreaves Arms - got a new name
Think all pubs going back to before 1939 should have some sort of "preservation order" on them to keep the original name , not bothered if the pub is 'done-up' or altered but keep the original as a bit of historical heritage .

Re: Hargreaves Arms - got a new name
i suppose in todays climate and how teh govenment is determined to close every pub in teh UK we shoudl think ourselves lucky its a new sign and not a for sale one

Re: Hargreaves Arms - got a new name
Maybe it's only part of the pub which is going to be 'Grant's Bar' .. lots of public houses do this.
Hey, and where is the apostrophe after Grant then ? A whole different meaning.:) |
Re: Hargreaves Arms - got a new name
Never could understand why they changed the Cemetery pub name to the Whittakers a few years ago.

Re: Hargreaves Arms - got a new name
The Cemetery Arms was called the Whitaker's Arms before it was the Cemetery. The pub was there before the cemetery opened (1864) The Whitakers were a wealthy Altham/Huncoat family.
The Imperial on Blackburn Rd was formerly the Albion. There are several early examples of name changes. It has been suggested to me that the Blockade was previously the Havelock. Retlaw thinks that The Railway was previously the Spread Eagle. The Broadway was previously the Peel Arms |
Re: Hargreaves Arms - got a new name
