What did the building used to be?....

this may have already been discussed, sorry if it has

Was out with Jedi and my mate last Saturday and we where stood in the beer garden behind the Railway, i looked over the fence to the side of the pub and saw a really nice building that i'd never ever noticed before, it's the one further down than Max Taxi's, i think its at the end (and i don't mean the sex shop) i was on the phone at the time and my mate said he thinks it used to be a cinema place....why isn't this building used for something nice? it's beautiful from the outside, maybe an art gallery or some sort of heritage place.....it's such a shame for it to go to waste

It is beautiful.

If you look up, past the shop facades, there are many exquisite building in Accrington.

On Blackburn Road, facing the Market Hall and Town Hall, and next to the Regency, going towards the arcade entrance in Church Street, there are some beutifully detailed buildings.

One of those two had pillars in the auditorium - if you got sat behind one, it made for difficult viewing.

Don't know who put the roof on but they should be hung from the rafters along with the town planners that let them.

It did tee hee. Sure some fellas shoved you behind one of those, so that you had to lean on them through the film.. Worked the other round too .. ;)

Think these may have been in the Princess in the circle. Had a gallery also .. was built as a theatre originally, unlike the Empire which was purpose built as a cinema.

What year did the old picture place burn down? About '64 or '65, I think. Maybe Retlaw can tell - he probably helped put the fire out - or not, as the case may be,
