HI all
this is the last entry of my grandfathers ww2 service records there is a word underlined in red BAOR, which means nothing to me , i was just wondering if anyone knew what this means .

British Army Of the Rheine = Germany basically although it also states on the papers NWE = North West Europe. :) Ex Squaddie see, but still over here.

cheers for that, i dont suppose anyone knows what a sapper (royal engineers) would have done in the BAOR.

Any number of things, dependant on trade. Combat engineers build bridges, fortifications, trench systems, mine fields & clearance, route making etc. If you know his actual unit you could probably find the Regt War Diaries or some mention of the units actions & locations. Or look up the Engineers association.

he was william sledden ,2136327, rank formerly sgt demoted to sapper , service trade pioneer , last serving with 213 army field coy royal engineers.
