The Accrington Pals.

Hi, I've signed up to this forum as I'm currently playing May in 'The Accrington Pals'. I've been trying to find out as much about the pals as possible to get into role. So if anyone has anything that could help me get into character; pictures, newspaper articles etc, please let me know. :)

Thank You.

Accrington Library, ask to the July/August 1916 newspapers, first read William Turner's Accrington Pals.
When that play was first being performed Atarah was given a copy of the Script, we both spoke into a tape reccorder so the actors would know what a Lanky dialect sounded like, after two pages I said stuff it, thats not the way Lancs men talk to females. We don't say things like "would you mind dear", more like, "Oi thee shut thi cake oyle".

The students at Rossendale College performed this a few years ago and were very fortunate to have Bill Turner work with them whilst getting ready for the performance. I don't know if the tapes still exist as it is quite a few years ago but will find out next week when I go back to work.

I've been in touch with the library, they said they have a collection that I can have a look at, which sounds promising.

Wow, the students must have relished the opportunity to have Bill Turner working with them, I know I would.

Thanks for your comments. =]

I know, I checked with Accy Library on Monday, they are prepared to photocopy some of their colection, but you will not be allowed the original material, most of it is irreplacable.
