Chorley & Burnley Pals

There is a group in Chorley who are raising funds to have the names of the men killed in WW1 put onto the cenotaph. On Sunday 14th August the leader of this group is doing a sponsored walk from Chorley to Accrington. He will likely be joined at some stage by his mates. It may be that a similar walk will take place from Burnley to Accrington that day.

Lets hope they make a better job of the names on the memorial than they did in the latest edition of the Chorley pals, there are several mistakes in that book, especially page 112, where they display a picture as Alfred Woods complete with biography.
The only trouble is that man pictured is Richard Ormerod L/Cpl. 15173, K.I.A. July 1st 1916, I have a copy of his personal diary, which he kept from when he joined the pals to just before he was killed.

Hi, that Chap Richard Ormerod is my long lost and Great Uncle, I found out about him only in the last few years, Ive visited to copse and spent some time in and around Serre, sadly I didnt find his grave, but will go back some time, if there exists a diary I would be extremely keen to be able to read it. As far as I can tell, Z company moved up, he died of his wounds onthe 1/2 July proably by shell fire and is buried in Euston Cemetary.
