I went along to the dig today - really interesting to see the foundations and floors of the old building being exposed. Shall try and go again next week sometime to lend a hand - anyone is welocme to join in.

I have been asked in an email to remind people about this. This is part of the email I received for those who are interested

went last Saturday and really enjoyed it but it’s not been very well publicised and not many people have gone along. The archaeologist on site – Ian – said people can turn up anytime (closed Sunday) to dig and no need to book.
I found 2 coins – 1919 penny and a farthing. Collectively we found pottery, glazing, floor tiles, bottles, glass wear, uncovered a fire place, more of the outer wall footings, old drains, cellar entrance. Not quite Time Team but a good experience and one kids can go to.

The excavation will run from Monday to Saturday each week from 9th to 29th July, with the 14th and 21st being open days for the public. The site will be closed on Sundays.
The excavation will run from 10am to 4pm each day with a 30 – 45 minute lunch break.
If you want to join for a half day, the mornings will run from 10am to 1pm and the afternoons from 1pm to 4pm.
There will be toilet facilities on site and a mess/office for brewing hot drinks, but please make sure you bring your own lunches and wear appropriate clothing.
There are no maximum or minimum number of days that you can volunteer; so you can come along for anything from a half day to the full three weeks and everything in between.
