Christian teaching class
1 Attachment(s)
This photo was posted in December 1909 from Manchester to my grandfather in Accrington, from A Bottomley.
He writes on the back "our minister ... told me a few weeks ago that he was going to be over in Accrington. He is splendid here and is a grand preacher. This photo is one of our class we had it taken when our last leader left. The Rev J. T. Cheatells/Cheahills (?). Mr Hannam is our leader now... I always look back to Mr Taylors class" Can anyone identify who these preachers were, and what church they were in? Did "the grand preacher" go over to Accrington? |
Re: Christian teaching class
I'm guessing from what's written on the card that the picture was taken in Manchester.

Re: Christian teaching class
The background has an established lok about it, so I am favouring it being a CofE group. There is a directory of vicars known as Crockford's. From this it should be possible to find Cheatwells & Hannam and work out which church they belonged to. If it is in Salford rather than Manchester, send the photo to the library there and ask them to put it into their next magazine. If these were Methodists, try the Wesleyan History Society. I think someone in Manchester area will easily identify the background

Re: Christian teaching class
It could very well be taken outside Manchester's Chetham’s School of Music.

Re: Christian teaching class
Have a look at the pic about a third of the way down this page. It's been cleaned up a bit!

Re: Christian teaching class
Well, Atarah and susie123, that's spot on! Thanks a lot.
I reckon I'll now have to contact Manchester Grammar School to find out more on the preachers and A Bottomley. |
