New Accrington book
In 1902, Rev Walter Burgess , a Unitarian minister, wrote 24 articles in the Observer about Accrington's history. They covered from 12th century to the start of the Industrial era. Burgess had done a huge amount of research in libraries and archives throughout the country. He put into simple language what Rev Whitaker had written about in his 'History of the Parish of Whalley'
Now, Robert Cunliffe has published these articles in book form, with an easy-to-read type font. He has published it is a150-page quality paperback, adding some illustrations. He has also added two more of Burgess' articles on Accrington's tradesmen in 1849. These will interst family historians as well. I believe that all who wish to knjow about the town's past should have this book. It is not yet available to buy in the town, but can be bought on-line from www.Lulu.com or direct from Robert ( racunliffe@totalise.co.uk) for £10 post inclusive. I wrote the foreword to the book. |

Re: New Accrington book
Robert Cunliffe has previously published an excellent book which was also a reprint from Observer articles. - ask him about that one too. ( racunliffe@totalise.co.uk) He accepts cheques or Paypal, but not cards. He has told me that there will be a few copies for sale on a bookstall on the flea market in Peel St this coming Sunday.
