Re: worst band/group you ever heard.

The main drawback with chart music today is it full of manufactured pap artists, too many idle producers who pick a decent original song cover it and throw a dance beat in it.

There are some very good bands around at the moment (Hard-Fi Editors, Interpol etc) but, at the risk of annoying so many of you wonderful accy webbers, in general music today lacks imagination, invention and most importantly talent.

The trouble is the record execs do not have a clue what they are looking for. They see some spotty little herbert with a guitar and deem it 'alternative' therefore it must be cool as fudge, right? wrong!!

Re: worst band/group you ever heard.

Just thought I really loathe and detest Pete Doherty. Somebody who may have talent but it disappeared up his ass a long time ago.

You're right Shaker A&R men look for what they think "the public" want, following punk they are still scared of missing the boat so anything "different" they flock round.

bleepy dance cr*p and 150 - 200 bpm over Bryan Adams heaven does not show talent, just lazy assed gits who can't be bothered being original. Give me anything over that be it Led Zeppelin or Joy Division, Buzzcocks or Dead Kennedys, or Stone Roses or Hard Fi.

Rant over.
Now breathe again.

Well said, I agree with the Pete Doherty portion of your rant fully :D
The Libs' were a great band...but as with a lot of the great bands - they were a flash in the pan; the full on gritty reality and high speed nature of their songs could only last so long before running themselves into the ground.
Babyshambles were/are awful - Pete is a spent force

I'm a little older than a few on this thread and I used to work in a record shop so I can say I've heard some total dross - Brother Beyond, The Neighbourhood, Brother Beyond, Nick Kamen, Brother Beyond, Screaming Blue Messiahs, Johnny Hates Jazz and Brother Beyond to name but a few.

Most pop music does my head in these days (must be an age thing), but one record that I found really abhorrent was that "Stick you" thing by Daphne and Celeste. I think I only heard it once and I wanted to kill them! They got bottled off stage at some festival...wasted opportunity, should have been molatov cocktails.

I actually quite liked The Screaming Blue Messiah's (I Wanna be a Flintstone what a classic), Gott a agree with Brother Beyond though. Actually Black Lace have to be in there (Come on admit it who bought Agadoo and Superman you sad people:) )

Re: worst band/group you ever heard.

I'm pleased - but can't believe that no one has yet ranted about the Spice Girls! Studio generated band, yes but the talent lies in the selection of voices, the song writing - and of course, Baby Spice: :wub8:
