York Races

Hiya!

Looking to book York Races in July, its all new to me as I have never been before.

:banlama:

Has anyone got any advice on whats stands/paddocks to book in?
Is it better in a stand or down on the ground?

Thankyou! :D

Re: York Races

Well heth racing hasn't been a pass time of mine, have only ever been to a couple of race meetings both Great Yarmouth, and we went in the enclosure near the winning post which was called Tattersalls which I believe is a common name for this section of the race course, no doubt if I'm wrong some one will tell me, but that was certainly the best place for me, you could pop down to the parade ring and then go back to watch the race and there was a Tote booth there as well

Re: York Races

thanks John.
I have heard this is the best place to go as you can see the horses better. Also dont have to put me high heels on!! ;)

Re: York Races

:juggle2:I would suggest Grandstand and Paddock where the bookies give odds similar to Tatts.
On the course (Cheaper Entrance). Kids by the million. Cheapskate bookies giving crappy odds and have been known to do a runner before the last race.

slight thread wander ..... seem to remember when I was a young-un Manchester used to have a horse racing track was on the opposite side of the road from Strangways , you could see it from the X23 Manchester bus . Remember there used to be a "Big" race (think 1000/2000 guineas)think it was moved to York after the Manchester course closed , in my mind I'm thinking it was the "Ebor"........ sound familiar to anyone ....not sure if it was on the flat or over the jumps

Castle Irwell, Salford. Both flat and jumps, Manchester November Handicap and Oaks.
Remember this was one of my first Jobs at Robbies 1962.

What i did on the few times i have been, is usually about 6 races, allocate a Fiver a race, have a sneck at the hosses walking round n bung it on the one i fancy, that way win or lose yeh had a good day, like jen says, its all about the experience.:) i expect to write the £30 off, but been 4 times in me life n only outa pocket once.:)

Re: York Races

Yeah thats whatI were thinking of doing, not spending loads even though sometimes I do get carried away!!!
Must be strong and only spend a certain amount on a horse.

I tend to go with the colours aswell of the jocky, if I like the look of 2 horses then the prettiest jocky gets my bet!! ;)
