The Passing of Yogi Berra at Age 90

Famous New York Yankee Catcher Yogi Berra passed away last night at the age of 90. Although he may not be well known in Accrington, some of his more famous mangling of the English language might sound familiar?

Perhaps you have heard the expression "It ain't over 'till it's over"

Here are some of his more famous expressions:

On selecting a restaurant: "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."

On how events sometimes seem to repeat themselves "It's deja vu all over again!"

On baseball attendance: "If people don't come to the ballpark, how are you gonna stop them?"

On his slipping batting average: "Slump? I ain't in no slump. ... I just ain't hitting."

On travel directions: "When you come to a fork in the road take it."

On traveling: "We may be lost but we are making good time."

On pregame rest: "I usually take a two-hour nap from 1 to 4."

On battling the shadows in left field at Yankee Stadium: "It gets late early out there."

On fan mail: "Never answer an anonymous letter."

On being told he looked cool: "You don't look so hot yourself."

On being asked what time it was: "You mean now?"

On a spring training drill: "Pair off in threes."

On baseball: "Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical."

On death: "Always go to other people's funerals. Otherwise they won't go to yours."

Rest In Peace Yogi Berra.

Yogi Berra

Dead at 90 ... Yogi Berra, New York Yankee catcher, ten-time World Series winner, and one of the most quoted figures in any sport. Who can forget "Baseball is ninety per cent mental, and the other half is physical"? Or, "When you come to a fork in the road, take it?" RIP Yogi.

Actually Cashy I posted a few minutes before Eric did this morning.
I guess great minds think alike?
Should I move this?
I was focusing on his humor more than his sport.

And who can forget: "He hits from both sides of the plate. He's amphibious."

But he was a great player of a game I came to really enjoy after reading Kahn's "The Boys of Summer." I'm a Cubbies fan ... they haven't won a Series for over a century.:D
