TV Ads

US Congress approves law to end annoyance of TV adverts that are suddenly loud | Mail Online

its about time they did it here to, this has been happening here for years, I'm fed up of scrambling for the remote every time the ads come on, they are usually 40 decibels above normal program sound, and while they're at it why not clamp down on the music they use on BBC news too as that exactly the same and there's no nee for it

teh ads come on louder so that they still get heard when you go into teh kitchen to make a brew, its bloody annoying i suppose but its better than paying extra tv licence fees to fund the extra channels so it could be a lot worse really

Commercials are blatent mind programming.
Programmes are subliminal mind programming.

It is the main way that our societies are changed (for the worse)

Some televisions have built in volume controls, that prevent the volume increasing when adverts come on. Try settings in menu and see if yours can be adjusted.

The way they make them louder defeats most agc's on TV's

Here is an explanation of how they do it

Techie answer ... the adverts are more compressed so have a narrower dynamic range of sound. In simple terms ... if you imagine a dB meter which ranges from 0-8. Ideally you set the sound so that speech peaks at the number of 6. In between though are a lot quieter bits. And the odd louder bit.

Now if you compress the sound you set it so, for example, the needle will never fall below 5 or go above 6. Anything louder than 6 will be brought down. Anything quieter than 5 will be turned up. And to all of us it sounds louder. Mainly because, for the most part, it is. But the actual peak sound, the loudest noise, is no higher and so the companies can rightly say they're played out at the same level
