yup it was based on a picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde :)

Dorian sells his soul to be youthful forever and the picture ages in his place.

from wiki ::

"The portrait serves as a reminder of the effect each act has upon his soul, with each sin displayed as a disfigurement of his form, or through a sign of aging"

It wasn't a great movie though :(

Which version did you watch , was it a modern day remake ? , the 1945 version with George Sanders is a classic

Re: Dorian Gray

Well, Dorian had a portrait in the attic, which was supposed to age instead of her, but Sharon and Tracy nicked it, and sold it down the carboot at Romford, so the plan went pear shaped.

:D

Haven't seen the new version, but the 1945 film, and the book were good.

I do not have a clue, steeljack...but I suspect it's some character from one of the soap operas Rindy is glued to when he's not fooling around on here. It's just a shame that he could not have helped Flashy with a brief synopsis of The Picture of Dorian Gray - one of the classics of English Literature.

Funnily enough, I was drinking earlier on in the Mahogany bar in Wilton's Music Hall, which some academics believe is where Wilde based Sybil Vane's music hall at Blue Gate Fields in the book.

It's alright being an expert on the big Irish Jessie, but your lack of knowledge about popular culture really lets you down, and is the main reason you'll never make the AW quiz team.
