Quotes And Quoting

O.K. where to start? Well, what is a quote?

We use a quote when we want to refer to what someone has already mentioned or after finding something that was said out there on the www.

There are a few ways we can do it.

Method 1/ After reading what has been said in a post:-

Method 1/ After reading what has been said in a post:-

We can either press the http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/s...tons/quote.gif or the http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/s...quickreply.gif Button in the bottom right hand corner of the box we are reading.

As we want to quote what has been said we will press the http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/s...tons/quote.gif button

This gives us the whole of that post.

We might not want all of the post, so we can modify it.

Left click and hold at the beginning of the words you do not require and pass the cursor over them until all you wish to remove is highlighted in blue, they will then be removed, when you press the backspace key..

Below is the same post altered:-

Then make sure that the cursor is flashing after the
at the end of what you want and you can type your reply. Pretty easy?

Re: Quotes And Quoting

another way to use quotations is when you have read through a long rambling thread,(such as this), and the person finally gets to the point, such as:-

"There you go, quoting is quite easy really".

You can use the http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/s...itor/quote.gif quotation marks above.

This time what you do is copy just what you require from the post, by holding down the left button and highlighting it, right click select copy then press the
http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/s...quickreply.gif button.

Less 17-03-2010 10:49

Re: Quotes And Quoting

So we have copied the bit we want, now we need to put it between the quotation marks,
left click http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/s...itor/quote.gif [ QUOTE]
with a flashing cursor will appear between them right click and paste

[ QUOTE]"There you go, quoting is quite easy really"
Again write your reply, then submit.

Quote:

"There you go, quoting is quite easy really"
I don't understand can we start again?

I know we've been told before, but I was still flummoxed.

I can do it, but only by opening lots of pages on Accy Web, and by then cutting and pasting after I've hit the quote button, on each seperate thing I want quoted.

I can rindy, but, lets see if I've put this simple enough for folk without trying to confuse too much eh?

"There you go, quoting is quite easy really".

Yes that's it, I've reached the end for now as with rindy just ask and either I or some other accywebber will promptly ignore you

Thanks Uncle Less, sort of helpful.

Though I've just really confused my self, by hitting the air bubble icon on your post, and it was posted in my blog, rather than in this thread.

That's never been my problem Gordon its when I wanted to just highlight a small portion of a post where I kept coming unstuck, but I'd read Lesses post before and still hadn't picked up what to do, was using the backspace arrow instead of the backspace on my laptop, now its sorted I'll be okay

Neil, I'd just decided I had suddenly gone TOTALLY senile when I noticed you had been in and fixed my attempt and Jaysays misquote. What a relief to know I'm only PARTIALLY senile as I thought I was.

I'm thick, and do it a daft way.

I just open lots of pages, and cut and paste what I want.

:D

I did once do it propery...by mistake, but I don't know how.

I think you need to click the ''+'' button, between 'Quote' and 'Quick reply', bottom right of a post.

That's what I tried but could only quote one post....
cutting and pasting is what i've done too but some people have huge lists of re-quotes and it gets mind-boggling...especially when i'm in one of my "blonde" days and can't cope with anything...:o

Have read back and found less's lessons and can multiple quote one extra quote but then it seems to give error -but it is a start!:)

Just cracked it myself Di... didn't realise you had to press the multiple quote button as well as the quote one.

Used the three examples above to show it can be done but had to remove the superfluous
from your post first otherwise it ends up like below as the system ends the quote after the first
instruction. Good luck!

I also found you need to put all your quotes in the post first before you start typing. If you go back to add more you lose what you have already typed - or maybe that's just me.
