The Albion Inn

Hi,

I may be a bit of a fraud to this site, as I have never visited Accrington. Bear with me! My dad was born and bred there and talks so highly of the place and the people. He was 80 last week and my sister and I wanted to present him with a photograph of The Albion Inn in Whalley Road, Clayton le Moors. My dad was actually born in this pub 80 years ago (I think his grandparents ran it at the time). Anyway, we have had major problems getting a picture and in the end asked the help of a local estate agents who kindly took a photo of the pub and emailed it to us. However, the pub is on the market for sale and the photo had for sale signs all over it and wasn't really what we were hoping for. Has anyone out there got a photo of the Albion as it was all those years ago? Or even just a fairly new photo but without the sale boards! For your information, my dad's name is Tom Rogerson - he still has his accent and is the loveliest bloke you could wish to meet!

Thanks to you all for listening! Here's hoping!

Re: The Albion Inn

Near the end of its downward years it was well known as a place for whacky baccy users - isn't that the place where policemen on a raid got thrown in the canal at the back?
Perhaps you had better not tell your dad that.

Thank you all so much for your replies - while I'm on, what is a God Member and what is a full member?
Beechy, do you think a modern day picture of the Albion will be unreconisable to my dad then?

I don't think the outer facade has changed much at all, maybe Atarah has a photo on her site?

'ow do, Lou, last went in the Albion around three years ago (27th August, 2005 to be precise, after the Exeter City match). It was a bit rough and ready, but friendly enough. Sat out the back and watched the canal flow past, while supping my pint. Think your old fella would've liked it!

Hi and welcome to our mad world of accyweb.

Live near the Albion too will see if I can get a picture without the for sale signs being to noticiable.

Not been in there for years and that was before it was closed for ages.
