Hi Folks . . .:punsure:
Am new to the Accy Site. Having been born and reared in Great Harwood I moved to accrington in 1963 when I married a girl from the town. I served an engineering apprenticeship at the then English Electric, but then moved on to a career with the Lancashire Constabulary which took us away to other parts of the county for several years. My good lady and I are now both past our sell by dates having returned to Accrington with our family in the 1980's. I have to say that Accrington is not the town I knew in my early years of marriage, when everyone knew everyone and there was full employment. Many of the best features of the town seem to have been lost or sold off to little or no advantage.

Kind Regards . . . Stumped

Hello stumped, and welcome to accyweb, anybody you talk to in any town these days says they dont know anybody in town these days, is because of migrants from other parts of the country, not to mention the world.

Hello Stumped, welcome to AccyWeb. I think people just move around a lot more these days than they used to so a lot of people leave and a lot of people arrive, hence no-one knows you or your granddad or great uncle Henry like they used to. The employment situation is probably down to the mills closing and Bulloughs gone. There's plenty of room for improvement and I still live in hope that some of the regeneration ideas will be taken on board.
