Hi, I grew up in Crawshaw Street, and remember the Gudgeon family very well ,I was best friends with Barbara Gudgeon, this was in the late 40's and through the 50's.. (younger brother James Gudgeon has/had a hairdresser shop in Warner St, in more recent years,)..

Sounds to me like your husband well and truly has or could have, his roots in good ol' Accrington, or certainly in Accrington for a long long time. I feel its a fairly uncommon name to this area and so this article from an old newspaper, MAY just be your husbands family - ACCRINGTON OBSERVER AND TIMES April 25th 1925. The article was entitled "Accrington a Century ago" and it says - In the end house nearest to Bank Street, lived for many years the GUDGEONS. They were an aged couple. One of their daughters lived next door in a cottage at the corner of Bank Street. A son, Robert, was one of the old volunteers.
Would be nice if your husbands family descended from this family eh?

Was David Gudgeon his brother, young David spent more time at my aunts in Crawshaw St, than he did at his own home.
Retlaw.
