Can any body tell me who Alice Nutter is I heard the very tail end of an interview she sounded like East Lancs, In some band Ive never heard of.

Alice Nutter was one of the Pendle Witches and was hanged at Lancaster in 1612.

The latter-day Alice Nutter was/is a member of the band Chumbawamba who gained their 15 minutes of fame when a band member threw a jug of water over John Prescott.

I think one of the band members "Danbert Nobacon" is a native of Burnley.

digsyboy on burnley web is into chumba wumba,,i think they are from burnley and district..theres one chap called eggbutnobacon i think ,i know they have been on in blackpools winter gardens..

if you want to read about the alice nutter get the book mist over pendle.....top read because you can relate to all the places they tell you about in the book ,thats if you are from around these parts and had a drive out into the surrounding countryside. you must be from around this areathere are a lot of gilmartins around accrington?

I've also read it waaay back in the seventies and have been drawn back to reading it many times since, however I also read a book called Lancashire witches which I have always suspected is where the author of mist over pendle got most of his plot from, a very deep book but worth the effort of proceeding with if you want more info', (and can find a copy, it was first printed sometime in the late 19th century).

Read Mist Over Pendle, in 70s, read it 3or 4 times since. a great read, especialy if you know all the areas in the book. By the way, was Born & bred, made in Downham, Looks like it, I was beast man, for a mate of mine, at the church there in 70s. the Ashetton Arms, accross the road. Many a pint in there. Went out with a girl from Downham, who had a four year old son from Bobby Elliot,of the Hollies, Be in his 30s now. Bit of trivia.

There are quite a few from Lanncs, living here, they came over when the textile industry was thriving, in the 50s & 60s, alas just this week Tasmanias last large weaving mill has gone into receivership, it will close if they cannot find a buyer. So a 150 people will be out of a job, which is quite a lot being that the population of Tassie is only, 495, 000.
