I'm sure it was mentioned on the radio that airports are going to relax the rules on hand luggage in the very near future, so you might not have a problem.:) |
Re: hand luggage dilemma
I think the rules are to be relaxed a little next week....your tour operator should be able to tell you all the details.

Re: hand luggage dilemma
On Wednesday, September 13th, it was a point of discussion on Beeb 1 that the hand luggage carry-on restrictions had been relaxed slightly to allow some previously banned items to be taken into the aircraft cabin. For example, musicians were being permitted to take their instuments with them.
The news article went further by saying that it was expected that this coming week the government would further relax the hand luggage rerestictions to allow larger items to be taken into the cabin. I certainly hope so, because when Lettie & I go away, next Sunday, we are restricted to 15 Kilos of hold luggage. |
Re: hand luggage dilemma
Just to prove that I wasn't hallucinating, or telling porkies... The BBC story.

Re: hand luggage dilemma
I think they were recomending phoning the airport to check. Don't risk someones 'thought' on here. Phone them and check for yourself.

Re: hand luggage dilemma
ime going away soon and part of my medical kit is scissors , i wonder if i am allowed them or do i look like the type of person who will use them to hijack the plane ?
edit: just rang manchester airport and although not allowed liquids in my hand luggage i can have my scissors |
Re: hand luggage dilemma
If you smoke, take a box of matches with you, as lighters aren't allowed, and it's impossible to buy a lighter once through passport control. Also i was allowed my camera and mobile, but don't know about walkmans.

Re: hand luggage dilemma
When we came back from Malta Em's scissors were confiscated and she had to leave them in the airport there. That was back in May. Manchester hadn't bothered on the way out.

Re: hand luggage dilemma
I was asked the camera question on thursday so there's a lack of information available isn't there. She said she was going to ring coventry airport to check which is where she was flying from as she believed it depended on the operator and airport.
Do yourself a favour, save yourself the stress and take your holidaiy in the uk next september, september is by far the nicest weather, it's warm but not hot, rarely rains, is usually sunny. Go to the lakes or devon/cornwall, call in to goony hill tea rooms and say hello to pasty pete. Enjoy whats on your doorstep. yes its the same price if not more expensive, but then you get what you pay for, apart from stress. |
Re: hand luggage dilemma
i should mention that i am allowed scissors in my hand luggage because they are or may be needed by me as part of my medical condition
not been allowed water is odd though oh well i may not be able to drown the pilot but i can stick my scissors in his neck  edit: any govenment agencies reading this post please note the :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: smiley |
Re: hand luggage dilemma
Now I'm curious what medical condition can require the use of scissors and what's to stop someone else grabbing them and using them as a weapon?
