Mobile - contract or PAYG & whom with?

Mobile phones these days only have a life of 12months before im having to get a new one & in a situ of having to replace my phone yet again seemingly on a 12mth basis:(. So im wondering is it worth going on contract get a free handset every renewal rather than PAYG & having to shell out for a new phone every 12mnths anyway:confused:. Then i ponder whom best to go with as most of my contacts are on various mobile providers if i should go contract & with PAYG im putting max £20 a month so is it really worth it plus i want to keep my number ??

Anyone with any ideas & knowledge of mobiles on what is best i should do??

TIA

Jesus christ do NOT I repeat NOT go with...........3................

Reception is the worst I have ever seen!!! and when you ring up with a problem you might as well ring a 3 year old. They would understand English better than these Numpties.

I have just ordered a Samsung D900 with orange!!! Nice phone and good deal.

If you spend more than 25.00 on PAYG a month you are better going with a contract.

Because I want to keep my number when I change phones I opted for 'Pay As You Go' and I can put the SIM card in a new phone and carry the same number with me as well as the stored phone numbers etc. I'm with 02 because no other flippin mobile service works up here.

Naaa not considering 3 tho some of my contacts are with 3 i've been there 1st hand with my brother as to probs he's had & the reception isn't great as he cuts off while ringing my landline LOL

If im going to go contract im sticking with virgin whom i cannot fault at all with reception & service been with them a good long while now, orange aint too bad altho the others i've been with & sacked never again. So you recon stick as payg as its only £20 a month Slinky ??

Mmmmmm means got the expense to replace the handset & last year i had a cuffel cos the shop wouldn't keep the sim & the discount price they give applies to registering sim & i didnt want to as was keeping my own sim didnt see what the prob was but carphone warehouse obviously must get commission on new registerees

it depends Mel. You see if you go with a contract it's just peace of mind really. You know you can call people whenever you want regardless of if you have enough credit.

You can also cut a deal on more credit or more text messages depending on which you prefer!!

Everyone's circumstances are different but I deffo prefer contract than having to worry about credit and what not.

ring them Mel and enquire about their deal that you saw on the internet.

Ask them to send you written confirmation about the deal as you are very interested. That way they can't back track on that deal if you decide it's not for you.;)

im with t-mobile just upgraded my contract ...gone on the flext 20 ..which is you pay £20 Google Page Ranking month for £35 worth of calls & text.. as ive been with t-mobile for over 18 months i was offered a new phone but declined it cos i like my samsung d500. so i got a reduction & my £20 Google Page Ranking month is now reduced to paying £8 Google Page Ranking month for £35worth of calls & text ......just had my first bill on flext 20 ...& im £12-61 in credit which is being carried over to this month ....so in fact paid nowt this month .....

Re: Mobile - contract or PAYG & whom with?

How much do you spend of a phone Mel. If its £60 thats £5 a month you can add onto your current £20 making equivalent of £25 per month you spend. You should find a decent contact with that. I currently get 120 mins a month for £15 with orange. They don't do that anymore so I am stuck on my contract for now.

Yeh found a great deal but it wants to do credit check altho i haven't any ccj's just the fact of not being registered on electoral roll cos of harrasment & keeping safe as you will of found why i aint registered on finding someones addy thread means that i will fail credit check altho its legitimate reasons:angry:

Re: Mobile - contract or PAYG & whom with?

Why don't you look at getting an o2 genie card (PAYG)? Top up with £10 per month & you get 300 text messages free. Unfortunately though, the texts don't roll over to the following month. You'll have to change your number, but, just text the new number to everyone.

Look for them on ebay, or, pop into the o2 shop in Accy centre & ask to speak to Wayne. He's a good friend & will never rip people off because he would rather have you refer him to other people. My girlfried was with T-Mobile & her monthly bills averaged about £125 p/m. Wayne spent 4 hours sorting things out for her, now her bill averages £40 p/m including insurance. Great deal.

It won't do any harm to have a chat with him.

Hiya Mel

Why don't you change your internet back to Wanadoo/Orange (yea I know you were with them!! ) and get phone & broadband combined package

But for the Racoon option plan at £35/ month you would get 550 mins anytime plus unlimited text - when you also take into account you'll get yr broadband free - thus saving £17.99 - that means you are only paying £17 per month for your phone - and you'll get a new one every 18 months

Re: Mobile - contract or PAYG & whom with?

Cant do still contracted with bt which is better than wanadoo/orange, altho seems they are all at it these days virgin are offering free broadband with contract as well, but the case of a credit check despite direct debit means i cant cos i cant be registered, so im in a catch 22 situation shame cos i found a great deal with virgin online till it said credit check online req :(

Re: Mobile - contract or PAYG & whom with?

I have an O2 Genie SIM in my moby. It works for me.
Like Accyjay said, 300 free texts a month plus 10 quid of credit, which can be used either on calls or another 100 text messages if you've already exceeded your free monthly allowance. It is possible to carry your old mobile number across to the O2 Genie SIM, a few of my workmates took advantage of this facility.

The only downside of pay-as-you-go SIMs is that fact that if you have been blessed with an extra X-chromosone, and you have a prediliction for yacking whilst on your moby, they can prove rather expensive.
Did I say that? :D Oh yes.:icon_hump Lettie's gonna get me! :hesoff:

UPDATE!

Finally sorted with new phone altho payg but a good deal nevertheless for £40 brand new including £30 airtime with my reward points from my service provider, so basically new phone cost a tenner - cant beat that can ya :D

Sorted & skint now, hopefully will get it within 48hrs.

Re: Mobile - contract or PAYG & whom with?

Well done Mel. I'm having the same problems here. My mobile is now over three years old and the battery is useless. I can make one call when it's at full charge and then it dies.

You don't get free phones in Tenerife, even with a contract so I've been looking at sim free on Amazon and Ebay. Unfortunately, it's all a little bit too expensive so my dream of a Nokia 6680 will have to stay a dream!!
