N.i.m.b.y
Hope someone out there can help me with this.Once a cat has sprayed its scent all over your backyard & then proceeded to use it as its own personal toilet what can be done to stop it.I dont want to buy a dog or a rifle(iv'e never seen the culprit anyway),& iv'e tried cat repellents from stores(but maybe not the right one).Jeyes fluid was one suggestion but the rain kept washing it away.Bottles of water another. It started off in the planters, threw them away, but now it just uses the floor.Sorry, not a pleasant topic, but any suggestions will be appreciated.

Re: N.i.m.b.y
You can either use pepper, liberally sprinkled around, or get a water pistol if you want to remain humane - otherwise, invite Chav round, I'm sure he'll have a few suggestions! :D

Re: N.i.m.b.y
I had a similar problem earlier this year. After cleaning up the offending area, I cut up an onion into small pieces & sprinkled all over the corner that the cat was using as a toilet.
Strange remedy, but it worked. :D |
Re: N.i.m.b.y
Slivers of orange peel also work...cats hate the smell of citrus fruits.
|
Re: N.i.m.b.y
Debbie J put orange peel in her bins to stop my cats having a root through. My cat simply threw out the peel and carried on having a rummage ! :p

Re: N.i.m.b.y
That wouldn't be the cat you've got that's about the size of a bengal tiger would it? :D
|
Re: N.i.m.b.y
lol, yes probably ! He also has a thing for jumping on peoples cars and chewing their aerials.
|
Re: N.i.m.b.y
Believe it or not, Tiger poo, get soem from a zoo and cats won't come near.
Something to do with them recognising bigger more vicious brother on the case |
Re: N.i.m.b.y
will vinigar work ?,it seems to be a cure for all sorts of things,,,,, marvelous stuff..
|
Re: N.i.m.b.y
jeyes fluid in tea bags seems to work but stinks. Getting agressive just means they run when you go out, it doesn't stop them coming on to what they see as their territory
|
Re: N.i.m.b.y
I was going to suggest either the tiger poo which you can buy at DIY stores or garden centre's or the sonic devices, we had one that worked a treat until someone nicked it!

Re: N.i.m.b.y
How pongy is the tiger poo?

Re: N.i.m.b.y
Notice how chav hasnt made a comment! Thought he knew exactly how to get rid of cats.
Me how i get rid of cats - let next doors cat in - he prowls round my garden like he owns it and the rest of the cats dont come in. Theres about 10 cats that live in the houses that back onto mine so it does work - the nearest that they come to my grass is on top of the 6ft high fence. Even then if they see me in the kitchen or i open the back door they jump off and do a runner in someone elses garden. Mind you back in August i did have my sisters dog for a week who loves chasing cats! |

Us having cats didn't put one local moggie off when he was besotted with our Bracken. He used to sit on the wondowsill and gaze at her.

Re: N.i.m.b.y
Cheers for the link,Glasgow, sounds the most promising so far.

Re: N.i.m.b.y
:flamethro My sis had a problem with this- they filled old large pop bottles with water and put them round the garden. The theory is they don't like being watched when they go and the can see their reflection. It worked for her but it didn't work on my kitten when we tried to stop him weeing on the back doormat!

Re: N.i.m.b.y
a good kick up the ass should do it! if you can catch it that is! or set your dog on it, if you have one!:p ;)

fpmsl .... Well yesterday my pure white cat must have made an impression on some woman who wears purple lipstick, he came back in through the cat flap smothered in purple lippy and looking very smug for himself ! |

But can you please explain how I would feel better by spreading nasty smelly big turds from a zoo's big pussykins, the fact is that like so many others We just don't want turds in our gardens. It could work though, if I ordered a couple of tons of the stuff and had it delivered while the cat was in my garden! |

Now then Less this is something I've wondered about too. |
Re: N.i.m.b.y
it would be no different from spreading horse manure on your roses...and its not like a big dog turd....
|
Re: N.i.m.b.y
After several sh**e free months today i opened the curtains & right under the window is a present from the phantom feline crapper. There's a skip down the alley,if anyones missing a moggie & i've caught it soiling my property,it'll be in there:mad:

Re: N.i.m.b.y
Strange! -cats bury their do-do's -are you sure it wasn't a Japanese miniature poodle? :;)

Re: N.i.m.b.y
That is strange that it will do it on concrete because like Margaret said they do prefer to bury their do-dos. Mind you we've got a barmy cat who does her business in the litter tray and then tries to dig up the floor next the the tray to bury it!

Re: N.i.m.b.y
Try squeezing some lemons around the yard- they dont like citrus smells

Re: N.i.m.b.y
It sounds like there is too much concrete and not enough open soil areas in the district where you live.
Why not provide an area of soil in the corner of the yard with a bush on it for them to go under (they like privacy) and you dont need to tend it (risking contact with the poo)- this might prevent them from using the area of yard that you do. With the provision of such a luxury loo, one cat will claim it as their own and so deter all others. |
Re: N.i.m.b.y
Or you could go the whole hog and put out a covered litter tray.
Have we suggested tiger poo? |
Re: N.i.m.b.y
But Willow - he would have the chore of emptying the poo and changing the litter in it. With a soil area it would just get dug in by the cat and rot down.
The cats who live mainly oudoors may not have been shown by their mother how to use a litter tray but soil use is instinctive. |
Re: N.i.m.b.y
think a 12 Bore will do the trick maxwell.;)

Re: N.i.m.b.y
Check with a local vet ... he will probably point you the right way ... I use a product called "SkunkAway" ... gets rid of the spray smell and the cats don't come back.
Maybe you would like a few skunk too ... we have lots, and would be only too glad to share them with our brothers and sisters accross the pond. |
