Budgies

Does anyone know anything about the breeding of budgies? Apart from the obvious that is.

My two have never been near their nesting box in the couple of years I've had them but during the last week or so they've moved in. I'm having a quiet panic now as I know nothing about the process.

Do I feed them special food? What do they need in the box for nesting?

HELP!!

Hahaha that brought back memories. My dad used to breed budgies (( I don't know all the in's and out's of it though)) He used to be as proud as punch when he got a baby!! I think he was more proud of them than us lol.

Thanks Panther and thanks to Jen for her pm. I've checked the budgie sites and even joined a forum but it all seems a little bit clinical. I was hoping for someone like Slinky's Dad, who could give me proper advice.

No eggs yet, so I have a bit of time. I'm dead excited though!!

Keep you up to date xx

I once went out with a lad in Clitheroe who bred budgies and canaries - but that was several decades ago.

Re: Budgies

Thanks Rindy. I'm sure that they are male and female and I reckon that it's a matter of time.

I'm just impatient as I'm so looking forward to it.

How do budgies have sex anyway?
I have a budgie.
It pecks me.
I do not like it very much.
It's rubbish.

If there isn't room to join the mile high club, there is always the old missionary position.;)

LOL Rind!

As already mentioned June, he can't but given half the chance our dad would have taken great pleasure in giving you the low down on breeding budgies. He also bred finches,

I can't remember him doing anything different, changing their food etc. I think he just left them to get on with it.

Good luck hope you've got some eggs very soon :)

Aw, no I love him really. I also have to guinea pigs which I love to bits. And there's this black kitten owned by a lady across the road, who leaves it out at night and in the rain etc. Nasty lady!

It likes me - I want it :(

I take it you are a townie, and have never lived on a farm?

It happens quite a lot in nature, and throughout the animal kingdom. It is a bit upsetting when you've forked out a small fortune for a prize bull, only for it to be more interested in 'playing' horsey, or bully I suppose, with other bulls.:D

Re: Budgies

Yup! I’m a townie if that’s what you want to call it.

The nearest I’ve got to a farm is my aunty’s farm, which was more of an orchard than a ‘real’ farm. And my granny kept chickens, ducks and geese in a rather large back yard, plus a vegetable and fruit garden that was even larger.

Give, give, give that's me.

If I had a spare $125. I'd buy you this book, to further educate you in the ways of the world.;)
