It states in the article that it is akin to hibernation. So there must be some differences to true hibernation.

Anyway, I was a bear in a previous existence!:)

It does say that they eat a crust and have a drink of water once a day.

The YouTube coverage, well that would be a bit scary.

I know that humans can't hibernate in the true sense of the word...but we can go into 'lethargy mode'....probably as a resullt of the carbs.

I don't mind cold weather......the kind where you get that endless blue sky and wonderful light off the snow. In fact the last two winters when we have had a covering of snow that lasted for a few weeks meant that my S.A.D. was not as bad as usual.
I try to get out into the daylight (whatever the weather) every day....and usually that is easy.....school walk morning and afternoon sees to that. Get my vitamin D from the sunlight. A very underestimated vitamin.

It is the kind of day where it never really gets truly light that I am referring to........and if that is weather wimpism, then I have to stand up and say 'guilty, as charged'.

For WWW, (Winter Weather Wimpism), take five of the following each day: BeaverTails - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A good Canadian remedy.;)

I know what you mean Margaret -very depressing -things are fine here at the moment but in November we often get weeks on end where you don't see the sky for fog...endless grey. That's what you get for living in the middle of the Padana Plain in Italy.

Do you not have a special lamp for the SAD? My friend Lisa suffers from it too and uses one every day. It reproduces the same range of light as sunlight.:hothothot

I have a SAD lamp.
I haven't used it for the last few winters.
I don't think it made any difference to my mood.
I rarely feel sad nowadays, so don't use it.

I don't feel sad.........when I am affected I just feel tired, and hungry for carbs.(I test my own sugar levels)

I know that bright light does make me feel better because the winters(their summer) we spent in Oz (coming back late March) I was not affected. And the last couple of years when we had snow on the ground for longish periods, I was better too(reflected white light even on grey days does help).
It is the lack of energy that bugs me........I want to get up and go, but I feel like I'm wading through treacle.
