Opening a can of worms............
................ well a tin a spaghetti actually, or baked beans if you like.
When you open a can of something do you wash your can opener every time? If so, why? If not, why not? |
Re: Opening a can of worms............
i only wash it if there's something on it, i just shove it back into the drawer
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
No unless i want to be lectrocuted but do give it a damp clean when needed, as mine is an electric can opener:D
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
ooh no i dont unless its something smelly....shame on me...
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
No need for one, you can't put cans in a microwave :D
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
ive got to admit i like the cans with the ring pulls on...
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
I wash it every time because I think it must get something on it from the contents of the can and I visualise bacteria growing and multiplying and then entering the next can I open and contaminating the food. Busman says I'm too fussy and it doesn't need washing every time. :D
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
Yep! I wash mine every time it's used no matter what's been in the can. If it's been used it needs washing.
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
as washing up is cashys job, i always wipe it with a damp cloth. am informed it will rust if i chuck it in the bowl.;)
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
i dont wash mine i just wipe it like you cashy... in past experience they have gone rusty....

Re: Opening a can of worms............
I wash mine every time, Like Willow, I can visualise bacteria contaminating my next can, especially as I don't use it very often. It would be sat in the drawer happily multiplying for weeks until the next use.
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
It goes in the dishwasher everytime its used. In fact it seems to spend its life in their waiting to get washed. I usually end up taking it out and giving it a quick wash before I use it then throw it back it again..
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who likes a clean can opener. I don't chuck it in a bowl of water though. Like my cutlery, I don't put that in the bowl either because my mum used to have ivory handled knives and I was always having it drummed into me that they must never sit in water as it would ruin them so all cutlery is kept separate and washed carefully by hand and immediately put to dry, even though there isn't an ivory handle in sight!
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
I don't wash it every time. I only wash it if i see food on it. They get rusty anyway if you wash them too much and then you can't use it.
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
One of ours fell to bits last week. Maybe I washed it too much!
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
Yep, I wash mine after every use.
Willow, you can buy a new can opener at Asda for 26 pence. |
Re: Opening a can of worms............
yeh i chuck mine in the sink after ive used it especially if opening things like beans or soggy stuff!
so most of you would put it back when used it??.....is that the same when you have opened a tin of doggy food!!! ....lol....ewwww |
Re: Opening a can of worms............
I tend to throw it in the bin:rolleyes: On the odd occassion we've bought one that will open more than 1/2 dozen cans successfully,it depends if i can be bothered or not.

Re: Opening a can of worms............
i regularly fall out with tin openers and end up throwing them across the kitchen, my dad thinks its hilarious and always ends up buying me another one, i dont like those cheap one's,can't use them, they fall apart in my hands, ive got a chunky one, they dont hurt your hand when trying to open a tin
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
mines bulky!:D
i used to have one of those you had to stab in the tin and push round:rolleyes: |
Re: Opening a can of worms............
I wash mine every time I use it, cant believe you dirty lot that dont:) , its a chunky one and hasn't got any rust on it, must say though most of my cans have ring pulls which I prefer.
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
i bought a fancy tin opener and i cant use it how i try...i think it must be for a left hander....
By the way i opened a tin this morning and yes i "WASHED" it,,,,even though it looked perfectly clean,You have shamed me into it:sad8: :unsure8: :rolleyz8: |

Re: Opening a can of worms............
ive got an electric knife ,and thats brilliant for cutting meatjoints, but thats all i use it for,,its too much bother to dig it out...
|
Re: Opening a can of worms............
Mine gets a wash after every use....and if it goes rusty it gets the fling-oh.
I have to say though that more and more cans have the ring pulls....and the can opener I use is just on of the cheap butterfly jobbies.....can't be bothered with electric gadgets much...though I do use an electric knife sometimes |
