Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Are you doing what you are supposed to be doing? Or should you be doing something else?
I only ask because I came up to the back room -where the computer lives, with a view to sorting out the place. At the moment the place is full of - well, not junk exactly, but stuff that is not currently in use. I am sure everyone must have somewhere like that in their home - though my hubby doesn't think so. We are having rellies over from Oz again. They are only going to stay for 3 nights this time(as opposed to 6 weeks) and this means i have to clear the place and turn the sofa from a sofa into a bed. I have been putting off this job for weeks, but as their visit is only about 9 days away i am going to have to get my bum into gear......though it is proving to be a hard job. What should you be doing right now? |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Should be mowing the lawn, but it's just been hailstoning, so I can't! :D:D
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Oh well, you have a really good excuse there.....don't want you to be fried.
I haven't got any excuse.......except that it seems like a monumental task and there doesn't appear to be anyone else up for it. I wouldn't care, but they are hubby's rellies and he's laid out on the sofa like the queen of Sheba (without the make up). |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I should be makeing sunday dinner but my mate makeing it so thats why i am on here

Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?

Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I should be tidying the house because we've got people coming round to view it in a short while - instead I'm on here.
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
See.....I knewthere would be other folk out there that were doing stuff they shouldn't.....and not doing the stuff they should be doing.
i feel so much better knowing that.:D |

Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
It's now glorious sunshine and the hail is just a distant memory. However, as I've pointed out to Mrs H, the grass is far too wet to mow...so I'm STILL not doing what I should be doing! :D
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Well, I have done a bit of moving stuff around...not that you could tell by looking, there is some major furniture shifting to be done....like moving the computer and all it's attachments over to the other side of the room......swinging the sofa around so that it can be opened up into a bed.....moving a clothing rail. Heck......loads of stuff. I think I will do a bit every day until the rellies arrive. I reckon if I try to do it all at once I'm going to bust my chops...no sense in that is there? Well.....answer me someone!
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Of course not, Marg! By the way, is Mr P still relaxing on the sofa, or has he disappeared to the pub (something I'm thinking of doing at this moment in time)?
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I should always be doing something else... but I'm here on my own so no one to make me feel guilty for doing nowt :D
Like your idea of the pub wynonie although I drank more than enough for all next week last night and went back to get my car today and had a few more (non alcoholic today though).... hmmm now should I go out again?? |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I should be ironing/ cooking a duck/drying school uniform /clearing various piles of " stuff" etc etc. I have cleared the dresser ,polished ,hoovered, made bacon butties, washed up,been to Spar, helped a friend fill in an online employment tribunal form and spoken to another friend, who was watching a cricket match in Leicestershire where "it's lovely and hot ! "

|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
You sound like you have done a days work there Mez.
I am just overwhelmed by what there is to do. I must have made these rellies too comfortable when they came last time :)....it is just over a year since their last visit......do you think when I'm sorted I should leave the sofa made up as a bed? |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
no no no you can pile more stuff on it that way  :D:D:D ;)

Oh, I thought only noses run in this family...no pun intended there......my father in law had what was termed an 'elbow' of a nose....and my mother in law always said if it had been full of rum, and you supped it, you would be drunk for a week....though I think that was an exaggeration on her part...he did have a big conk though.

Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Well, I have just found a few little hidey holes to store some stuff in.....unfortunately I can't reach a couple of them, with me being a little on the short side.....but when i get the ladders back of N tomorrow I can put some things away.
We also have started buying stuff for Christmas.......I know, I know, but you have these things to do. My problem is that I will salt stuff away and then forget where i have put it...and then have to buy again....and the resultant saving will go down the gurgler. I shall have to put a little note to myself on the computer. I am always like this......think I am never going to get things sorted, but I always do...eventually. I'm just NOT going to clean all my kitchen cupboards out......I did that last time and they don't need doing again. |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Well this is what accyweb is for to enjoy your self,s whats the fuss a bout
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Don't worry about your kitchen cupboards Margaret. I cleaned my pan cupboard out before 'im indoor's sister came to stay last month. My daughter thought that was highly amusing as Shona never even goes into the kitchen whilst she is here!!
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I had to laugh at that June.....when the mob came last year I spent ages (at least a month) spitting and polishing........used lashings of soda crystals, gallons of hot water......got myself a lovely pair of 'dish pan hands'.......and do you think anyone noticed? Did they heck. Like all housework(which I despise)....it only gets noticed when you haven't done it.
This time they will have to take us as they find us......and the stuff I am doing is only to make space for them to sleep.......they are getting free bed and board...if they don't like it they can go across to Maple Lodge and pay £45 a night EACH. |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
My goldfish say thank you Marg.
They are no longer trying to swim through pea soup, thanks to you.:D |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I should be tidying up now. I have a whole kid-free week ahead of me so I should be able to get the house looking like human beings live here.
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?

Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Suppose I ought to get back to balancing my books.
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I should be washing up, but cant be bothered:P
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I've just washed up and now realise there is an unwashed dish!
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
There's always one......it is one of lifes enigmas......like there always being an item of cutlery at the bottom of the washing up bowl...usually a teaspoon.
Well, didn't get the ladders back so nowt done today.......there's always tomorrow :) |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I should be starting to read my new book.
Another order from the lovely lady in Smith's.:) |

Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I think you guys, most of you anyway, have got a massive overdose of Lancashire work ethic. Chill guys, time was meant for wasting. If you are not ignoring some crappy job you are supposed to be doing, you are not having fun. All this guilt comes from parents and grandparents. I remember my gran asking what I was doing, and when I responded "nowt," thinking I was in deep s**t for doing something wrong, she would scream, in a voice trained on the factory floor: "Well, do SUMMAT."
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I AM doing summat! - just having a fag break - nearly finished painting the bedroom ceiling I started 6 months ago (whisper -Willow - I think that Qlink pendant works)
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Waiting for everyone to get ready to go out
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
That is what I was getting at Eric......All of us can find time to do the things we enjoy......but when we haven't done the things that we should have done, we cite lack of time.
And my gran used to say to me 'If they told you that was work you wouldn't want to do it!'...............and it meant roughly the same thing. |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I did nothing useful all day ... it was hard ... I could almost feel the belt on the back of my legs. And now, I am going to eat food that is bad for me, and wash it down with lots of beer. Cheers.
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Enjoy Eric....enjoy!

Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Yes, Margaret I should !! Taken some time off work to put my house back in order after decorator.
Need to clean out all kitchen cupboards, clean all windows, pictures, etc., etc., etc. Have you noticed after having decorating work done, the money you spend on all the extras 'cause they don't look good any more. So far have acquired:- Couple of new light switches (brass of course) Carpets cleaned. New smoke alarms .. looked like they had been in a fire themselves. New carbon monoxide warning cards -only to be told by Gas Man complete waste of time as can't see the change of colour if you are asleep in bed .. then tried to sell me one that has an alarm ... has a point I suppose. New riser rail for shower. Need toiler roll holder. Thrown out plants as not been very kind to them... will have to look for new ones. Side lights in back room .. knocked one off wall after Accyweb meet. Three new lampshades .. they get burnt at the top, don't they ? New main curtain rail. Curtains cleaned. New picture for hall .. t'other looked outdated. Chucked out all artificial flower arrangements and lots of clutter ornaments, but looking to replace. Need I go on !! Oh, forgot .. gotta find new suite and rug .. Better get offa here then .... |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
im on a free break at work - he he
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
My Gran used to say, "If you really must do nothing couldn't you go and do it somewhere else?" :D I think I was probably getting under her feet.
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Yea, I really should be working ..... but while the boss is away, the mice will play :)

Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Accyweb is a bit like chocolate...one piece is never enough, it is addictive......you feel guilty when you know you should be doing something more productive, but heck you do it anyway.
Accyweb might not be full of fat laden calories but it still thickens your waist as you sit here at the keyboard when you could be at the gym. It can however, be good for your heart...especially if you have a problem, because there is always someone on here who is ready with uplifting words and support......and before you ask, NO the back bedroom still isn't ready and the rellies arrive on Tuesday! |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I come backwards and forwards here. I do a bit of dusting, then sit down and have another look at AccyWeb, vac a floor then sit down and have a look at AccyWeb, do a bit of ironing then sit down and have a look at AccyWeb.
You're right Margaret. I think it must be addictive. |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Willow......I know it is....when I take Ma away for a break, I can't wait to get back to see what is going on here. It is better than any soap opera.
(in fact, if I am honest, while I am away i look around to see if there is an internet cafe where I can get my 'fix'........and would love hotels to have some public computer facilities. |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I REALLY shouldn't be here...... I have so much to do before the gang arrives.
It seemed like this visit was miles away....and now here it is breathing down my neck like a hungry tiger. I have given the bathroom a good going over....steamed the tiles and the floors......tidied all the towels (we have someone in our house...not sure who it is....who always takes one from the bottom and then tries to stuff all the others back onto the shelf). I am just in the process of tidying the little monsters toys....I think these things must breed in the night...I don't recall him having so many. I have to find somewhere to secrete all my vinyl LP's...my music past......I keep saying that I will take them to the charity shop but hubby won't let me, I still have a turntable somewhere in the house...maybe that will turn up while i am looking for a hidey hole to put the LP's in :). I still have to dismantle all my computer gear and move the desk over to the other side of the room.......I am trying to leave that till as late as possible.......and of course I have to make up beds. Am I going to get it all done do you think.......Not if I continue to sit here on my bum talking to all of you! |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
I'm only here because, foolishly I thought I could do what Willow does....... a bit of work then a 'go' on the computer....but I don't think it is going to work for me....strong moral character that Willow!
I think I am probably going to have to disconnect all the computer stuff...or I'll never get finished. |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Well....I disconnected my computer...and I worked solid for 6 hours. I really knew that this was the only way anything would get done.
There was lots of grunting and groaning...in fact it reminded me of something....I know now what it was, it was LABOUR. Well, except the man of the moment didn't have any input to this little bit of work. I have done a big move around in the room....the computer desk and all the gubbins are now at the opposite corner of the room......the sofa bed is under the window (still piled high with stuff to be shifted).......the carpet had had a good hoovering (except it was a Dyson...but Dysoning doesn't sound quite right). The ankle biter was here for the afternoon and he desperately wanted to 'help'....and I desperately didn't want his little fingers poking into stuff that he should be touching. I have to admit i got a bit fractious at one point and told him to 'go away and find Grandad'....which he did. The rest of the shifting can be done tomorrow.......I feel absolutely 'mashed'. All this for 3 days! |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Just reading this makes me tired ... enough already ... chill, eh.
|
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
Well, here I am again.....not doing what I should be doing.....but having said that I think the back is broken (mine too). I was incredibly stiff and sore this morning when I woke up. I surveyed the room and deciced that there is still a lot to sort out....but I have found a hidey hole for the Vinyl LP's.
I have done a bit more shifting and now the sofa bed is opend up and lovely fresh cotton sheets are on it........I have raked the extra Duvet out of the drawers under our bed........some of the little monsters toys have been consigned to the Garage.......the put-u-up bed is now down in our front room.....but I cannot find the single Duvet that goes with it.....I have looked in all the possible places and some impossible ones too. I am thinking that perhaps i gave it to my daughter when her little one got a full size bed....so I will either have to borrow one or someone will have to make do with Blankets. It is all looking like we are on schedule. Who said I would never do it???????? |
Re: Shouldn't you be doing something else?
The rellies arrived in the early hours of Wednesday morning......like something to one. I didn't wait up, but I did hear them arrive so I got up to make them a cuppa and offer them some food and welcome them.
There had been a right MCU (monumental cock up) at Manchester airport....the flight up from Heathrow had been delayed due to bad weather conditions.......and when they got into Manchester all the domestic baggage handlers had gone home, so they waited over an hour to get the luggage offloaded and only managed to get to the Car hire place one minute before it closed. The good thing about coming in so late was that the roads from Manchester were quiet. The first day of their holiday in the Uk was bright and sunny and they couldn't understand what all the fuss had been about the poor summer. They have left us now for a road trip around Scotland, Ireland (where both their families have their roots) and a little bit of Wales. They aren't coming back to stay with us, but are going to use the caravan belonging to a member of the family. I haven't demolished the bed though....just in case. All that work for 3 nights! |
