Where should I go??
Right, me and Ginger have got our passports through YIPPPEEEEE and we want to jet off somewhere nice in october.
It's our first time abroad and we are going away without the kids :D ( it's the honeymoon we never got ). It's the end of October that we are going and I know some places close down due to being end of season. We were looking at Cyprus, but some places here close down, Turkey is the same ( but don't fancy Turkey any way ).. the only place that I found that I like the look of is Lanzarote. So here is my question.............. Where would you recommend?? I want 1) sun 2) sea 3) beach 4) relaxation I'm not much of a sight see'er, much more prefer to laze around, but I also want some things to do if I get bored lazing around ( which is highly doubtful ) Where should I go and why?? |
Re: Where should I go??
Weather wise you'll struggle to find anywhere really warm in October, especially in europe. You might want to consider places like Tunisia or Egypt if you like it hot.

Might have to look more into Tunisia. |
Re: Where should I go??
I would suggest Costa Blanca.
Altea - Benidorm - Calpe. Lived there for 7 years and found it fine all year. Plenty of nightlife, shops, markets etc., |

Re: Where should I go??
Dominican rep is pretty constant weather all year, mid-upper 30s generally. All inclusive drink as much as you like is the way to go.
You didn't mention budget, teh above are uusually available ~£600-700 each. Remember you won't spend very much at all when you are there as you don't need to buy ale unless you go out the hotel and its quite cheap anyway. I didn't like Tunisia, you get hassled to buy at every corner and teh souks are a pickpockets dream. I believe Ibiza is open pretty much all year round if you want disco/party atmosphere. Croatia is nice but you are going at the end of the season so stick to major towns like Split or Dubrovnick I guess you need to tell us what you want out of it. Do you want to come back all relaxed or all partied out? |
Re: Where should I go??
To get the warm weather in October you'll have to go to The Canaries, Tunisia or Cyprus.
I have lived in Cyprus and can highly recommend it. By the time it got to October the weather was just right. I lived in Limassol and that has everything. Its got the beaches, nightlife, shops etc.. Its also great because its only an hour away from both airports (Larnaca & Paphos) also Paphos itself for day trips and Ayia Napa if you want a mad night out are only an hour away. Limassol has 2 waterparks and almost everything is in walking distance (although I wouldn't attempt to walk to the Old Town) The Troodos Mountains are also not far (driving distance) The foods great the taxis are cheap and the drivers are well mannered, there are also buses everywhere. If you have a look there, let me know what hotels you look at and I can probably advise you if they are decent enough. |

Re: Where should I go??
heh, sorry, missed that one.
Do you mind teh idea of long haul? i.e. 8-10 hours on a plane? How about Goa? its meant to be lovely and food/beer is cheap Maldives are probably teh ultimate in relaxation but not much else to do unless you like scuba |
Re: Where should I go??
Cyprus is open all year, has lovely weather, just right in October. Limassol would be great at that time of year, not as crowded as in the summer. Lots to see in Cyprus but if you don't want to sightsee then it is a laid back, relaxing place.
Lanzarote is another option, great weather, good restaurants in Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise. A hire car can get you round the island and up the volcanos in a day. Decent beaches and some decent hotels/apartments. Dominican Republic all inclusives are pretty good value but be aware that the travel companies will try to make their money by offering trips. You may even be told that it is dangerous to explore on your own which is a load of carp. It is pretty hot all year round but a long way to go if all you want to do is sit on your bum for a week..:D Southern Spain still has pretty nice weather in October. The Costa del Sol has varied resorts, a good bus service, plenty of eateries and drinkies.:D There are some lovely hotels around the Marbella area, great shopping, comfy sunbeds and easy access to day trips to North Africa. Enjoy your hols. |
Re: Where should I go??
Cyprus and the Canaries you are fairly guaranteed good weather in October.
Long haul there are some great deals to Dubai and Goa. I know someone who got a two thousand quid per person holiday to Dubai for £200, staying in a seven star hotel. Nearer to home the Maspalomas area of Gran Canaria has the best weather in the Canaries. Wherever you go I'm sure you'll enjoy it.;) |

Re: Where should I go??
slinks - paris n i go every october to benalmadina, for 3/4 weeks n never had a bad un yet, so would suggest the costa- del-sol, its usually 70/80 degrees at that time of year, lovely but not uncomfortable when you need a kip.;)miles of beach with sun-beds, some good night entertainment if ya want it.

Re: Where should I go??
I came back from Malta yesterday. It was over 100' and far too hot. I don't usually go in July but I took my granddaughter so it had to be school holidays.
In October Malta is lovely and warm but not oppresively hot. The sea is still warm too. In the North of the island, where I always stay, there are lovely beaches with sea that's shallow for a long way out, while deep enough to swim. The food is lovely and the natives are very friendly. Maltese teenagers are well behaved and polite and there's virtually no crime. I go twice a year - and I wouldn't go if it wasn't ideal. |
Re: Where should I go??
agree with westender about malta, been a couple of times.only downside is if you like a late night slurp, things shut at midnight, ok if hotel bar serves late.;)
|
Re: Where should I go??
Yes, I hadn't thought of Malta. We went there two years ago in the October half term (towards the end of the month) and the weather was lovely. We were out by the pool every day. It rained once and we did struggle for something else to do, so we went in the pool anyway, it was warm enough and it didn't matter which water was getting us wet - plus, there was the most spectacular thunder and lightening storm one night.
Definitely worth looking at - highly recommended. |
Re: Where should I go??
slinks go with your gut instinct .......i do ...& ive not been dissapointed yet, have a lovely holiday wherever you choose.......... we all have memories of the places we visited, good or bad ...just enjoy.

Thanks again everyone!! it is helpful to know some of the good places. Sometimes when people suggest something, you haven't even thought about that place and it gives you a better picture. :D |

Costa Blanca is the best for me; it will still be hot enough in October, though a little chilly at night. Plenty of places still open and lots to do if you want to. I am off there next week ! Yippee !

The last 4 times I've been in Malta I've stayed at the Riu Seabank Hotel in Mellieha Bay. It's right opposite the biggest sandy beach on the island and it's a lovely 4* hotel with a very nice pool and the food's great. Mellieha is quiet, which I like, but if you want somewhere more lively there's St. Georges, St. Juliens and Sliema (where all the shops are - M&S and lots of Designer shops etc.). There are no proper sandy beaches down there, it's quite rocky, but nowhere is far away on Malta and you can get to the beaches on the buses (they are an experience) or hire a car. Oh, they drive on the left too - and the Maltese all speak English, it's their official 2nd language. Seabank Hotel Info about the hotel if you're interested. |

Re: Where should I go??
I can recommend The Gambia. 5-6 hr flight, no time difference, very cheap food and drink, loads to do and see. It will be around 30C in October, and flights are around £250. My hubby and I have been 6 times and always have a great time. The people are wonderful too. The beaches are fabulous, with Sanyang beach being the best of them all IMO. Do give it a go, its wonderful.

no its good for things abroad you know. like if you wanted dental surgery in another country their dentists are better trained than over here and it costs half the price. its near impossible to go private over here and afford it.

Re: Where should I go??
Florida, USA (not Virginia, we're closed for the winter:p). Great beaches, great relaxation areas, great night lifes, great touristy stuff. Best thing, the pound is so strong against the dollar you'd get a really good price on things.
