school uniform.......
its coming to that time when im going to get the kids uniform,.....yes asda do it cheap but are they gonna last?
abby street shopping centre is the only place i can get my daughters uniform, no pants for her though, because shes a 33in leg!!:(, i havent a clue where to go.... |
Re: school uniform.......
ive ALWAYS bought Reece's school trousers from m&s, they arent as expensive as you think and last all year, i buy him two pairs,(only £6 each) they are hard wearing and dont ever fade, and are teflon coated, i bought all his new uniform in july, bigger sizes obviously, got his trousers,2 polo shirts(£2) 2 p.e polo shirts(£2), shorts(£2), trainers(£15), coat(£8) and two sweatshirts(£16)...all i have left to buy now are his shoes, and i get those from tommy balls, they are all clarkes and i can usually get him a really nice pair for £5 :D

Re: school uniform.......
I get my kids uniforms from Abbey Street. I like them to have the school emblem on their jumpers. I bought some spare polo shirts from asda a couple of years ago, and will never do it again!! they shrink after one wash and go out of shape after about a week.
the only thing I don't like from Abbey street are their trousers, so I will go to M&S for them. |
Re: school uniform.......
Not a lot of choice really when you have to buy logo'd stuff. In those cases you can only shop around for trousers/skirts.
Just in case anyone has a child attending St Christophers you can now get their uniforms at Barden Mill in Burnley although I don't know how they compete price wise. They are also Trutex stockists |

Re: school uniform.......
I got the biggy this year as 2 of ours starts senior school & it has to be logo/badge this & that, Mount Carmel is becoming a stickler for this & they want everything to be trutex as well!! They used to do the badges for the blazers least then u could economise on the blazer but they have stopped doing that now so i have to pay a fortune for a blazer with badge!! So be abbey street this year, & adsa poss if theres owt i can get away with:)
Personally i think school uniforms are defeating the object nowadays of being affordable & fair, also now double standards as far as logo's are concerned, u cant have kappa, timberland, nike, ellesse etc on yer stuff but u can have our logo instead which goes along the very same principle & inflating prices for the schools coffers even worse for those that can only get uniform from the school. Schools are identified by their school colours so no need for the emblem everywhere!! As long as u wear the school colours as in uniform u will not be excluded from school because of no logo, if the school try then contact education authority because thats what they said to my mate who's son is going to do just that! It makes a mockery out of the whole point of uniform for me, its going to be hard on us but i do really feel for those on low incomes/benefits as the clothing grant system was abolished a few year back & notice they dont make up for it either, so some families especially senior school uniform is going to be real hardship - even more so to more than one child to cater for. |

Re: school uniform.......
lol but what about the pupils in accy?
|
Re: school uniform.......
Still think the best place for St Chrissy's uniforms is Whittakers in Blackburn. Price wise they are not bad and at least you know they are going to last.
|
Re: school uniform.......
they sell it in blackburn too? whats the world coming to?
|
Re: school uniform.......

Re: school uniform.......
:mad: Im spitting mad uniform buying is bad enough but Mount Carmel think people are bloody rich!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only Mount Carmel has the strictest expensive uniform policy i have ever seen, just threw a stroppy in Abbey street over price of skirts twice as much as the others because of the trutex name!!!!!! Not happy & will keep trying the uniform policy officer @ the education authority before i buy them! Simply not on that a head teacher can dictate uniform down to one particular trutex make as well!!!!!!!!!!! |

Pot seriously calling kettle black there, after seeing their prices maybe they should take the lead & drop them 1st :( |

Re: school uniform.......
Just update - got in touch with uniform policy officer @ lancs education authority & basically I dont have a leg to stand on - the school can say & do what they want with uniform policy as its a church school!!
So basically if my daughter wears another make of skirt then ther school can send her home or even exclude till appropiate uniform stipulated is worn:( How blumming crap is that, so the whole point of affordable uniform cos that is what it was invented for goes out the window!!! I sincerely hope they apply that for her education rather than the uniform or does that explain the poor results for that school. Me thinks the school is getting some form of handout or grant/bung or whatever, cos why else would it be so stringent without any flexiblity. |

Re: school uniform.......
I went to Paddock House in 1954. At the time there was only 1 tailor for the school, J.B.Smith of Union Rd., and you had no choice.
I can remember going to be measured, then fitted, for 2 navy blue pinafore dresses, 2 cream shirts, a cardigan, tie, navy blue overcoat and velour hat. The dresses, shirts and coats were all hand stitched and the bill was enormous. When we went into the 3rd form we had to have brown coats, again hand stitched, and those dreadful mortar-boards. We also had a totally different Summer uniform of blue and white striped dresses, navy blazers (yep, hand stitched) and panama hats. Even the PE clothes were "unique", blue aertex shirt and brown pleated cullottes, and we had to have hockey sticks, pads and boots, plimsolls and tennis rackets. Over the years my mother paid a fortune to have me looking absolutely awful. Just be thankful things have changed as much as they have. |

Worked with a lady who had a 33" leg .. wow.. longest legs I have ever seen .. terrific.. but what a problem, she did have some pants that were half mast. Shame there are not many 'dressmakers' bespoke tailors around these days. Know could prove expensive, however, could chose a really good fabric for her and if you consider the cost per wear, may work out cheaper in the long run and will fit a treat. |

It would be cheaper to bring back the use of liberty bodices and line them with that stuff. In the wintertime in the 40s they were basic childrens wear

Re: school uniform.......
Saga bit no 2, my girls have just gone down to Abbey st to change one set of shirts for a bigger size, daughter rings [as i told her to if she had probs exchanging it] the next size up they want another £2 on top, like hell yeh, so asks daughter to tell shop keeper for either a credit note, refund or other shirts that fit to that amount i have paid, so rings daughter back as shes leaving shop result, no £2 extra no shirt, so says i'll ring the shop, just as i get the phone no dialled, mobile goes off, my other girl says no worries we got the shirt next size up for that price already paid. Whay-de-go good girl power LOL im proud as punch:D
Blumming shirts are those fitted ones so obiviously smaller than standard because of the trutex thing style to charge more for next size which my daughter isnt big was a cheek:( |
