bannisters/stair hand rails...where & who ?

I need a new bannister/hand rail for my hall way (we took the old one down when re-dcorating & havent finished it:o) so I need to know where I can get one - nothing special , how much they cost and who can fit one - the sooner the better really as my other half is nearly 9months pregnant and struggling up and down the stairs - would also like one for when baby has arrived to make going down the stairs safer...

so who can help ?

many thanks

Re: bannisters/stair hand rails...where & who ?

When I was refurbishing a terraced property in 1980, I had a stair handrail replaced by the joiner who I had contracted for all the joinery work.
So I think that you will find that any joiner worth his salt could do it.

Homewise (charity based in Accy) have a list of reputable tradesmen.
Just get a few quotes.

Easy to fit now, you don't need to put wood wedges into the wall like they used to be fitted, you can get mounts now that just use 3 screws/mount.
Strip any paint off the old one, sand down, light coat of varnish and they keep a real nice shine on them with people rubbing their hand on them

Ian says it is at the bottom of Electricity Street, the slip road at side of Asda. There are some units there he thinks it is there. Hope that helps.:)

There isn't a Wickes in Accrington and the one in Blackburn is closed too.

Nearest ones are in Bolton (near the station) and Preston (not far from the Uni).

Why did you 'dispose' of the old one when you were decorating? Seems a bit extreme.

Someone mentioned Electricity St near Asda, there is a place on there that does doors, not sure about stair parts though.
You could have a look HERE
