nicotine stains

daddy has nicotine stains on his fingers from smoking roll ups, his usual method for removing it is bleach, has anyone any other ways of getting rid of it without harming his skin?

Re: nicotine stains

Has he tried pummice? I think the only sure fire way is to remove the old skin and give the new skin chance to grow so regular exfoliating with pummice should do the job but he'd have to avoid smoking to stop it coming back.

Dunno if these are any good.

Well, best I could google flashy:-

How to Get Nicotine Stains Off Your Fingers

Long time since I saw nicotine stains on fingers .. probably to do with filter tips now.

I get them on my right index finger nail and have to do the 4-step nail file polish thingy, plus bleaching tablets (special ones for nails) but doesn't remove completely... only new growth will do this if you can refrain for a while. Complete 'disguise' is to cover up with a coloured nail varnish .. course your daddy can't do this on his nails ... :D

I use lemon on the back of my hands sometimes when I can see that there is some sun damage there (well, not this year ..:D) .. usually known as liver spots, but nowt to do with the liver at all .. just sun damage, it does help.

Think maybe 'cause you have 15 layers of skin on yer lips which shed frequently, paricularly if they are well used.. ;)

A pretty lace glove will make it look like a smoker has had an intricate Henna design on their hand, as the lace acts as a stencil.;)

Re: nicotine stains

Personally I use a pumice stone...gently, so it doesn't take the skin off along with the nicotine.:D

Excellent suggestion Garinda .. but guess 'Daddy' is British ....

WillowTheWhisp 03-10-2007 05:12

Re: nicotine stains

Pumice stone actually does take the skin off, but only the top layer - it just kind if speeds up the natural skin shedding process.

My Dad used to get nictoine stains on his moustache! yuck.

Sugar soap might work and it would probably be kinder to the hands.

It'd be a nice name for a baby.

Nicotine Higginbottom, Observer Baby of the Year.

I'd vote for her.

This is good Margaret ... not for fellas though I suspect. My daughter had some when she came over at weekend ... do work. They were small ones and a few in a packet. Unfortunately, she picked up the one that she had given me, so will have to seek them out. Keeps the smoke off your face too.

MargaretR 16-03-2010 12:39

Re: nicotine stains

I tell you of my experience with cigarette holders -
..the ejector type soon drop into bits
..the ones with tar cartridges are a waste of space too - you will be buying so many cartridges that you will soon get annoyed with them.

A traditional no nonsense holder is the way. There is one on ebay right now. Type in item number 310185708175

...you will need pipe cleaners because they do get blocked up like pipes do.

katex 16-03-2010 13:04

Re: nicotine stains

Thanks Margaret ... think the ones she had though were almost disposable .. nothing fancy, and for rolled up cigarettes as had a very small diameter.

Have you tried the ciggie stall in the Market Hall?

Re: nicotine stains

The traditional style cigarette holders that I use are for standard width cigs - slimline cigs would just drop out.

I roll standard width size by using standard size filters in a rolling machine

Really Marge, I thought you more akin to "Nanny Og" who normally smokes a pipe but has a Cigar at "Hogswatch"
