Town centre roundabout.

I have no doubt many here have been driving in Accrington for years, and I have a question in that regard, when driving down eastgate to the roundabout, and intending to turn into Hyndburn rd, I use the second lane, but I notice, that even though it is the 3rd (4th if you count the car park)turning off, many people use the inside lane, so I have to give way to people undertaking. Is it me missing something?

I think you can safely say the highway code ,has been put out of the window. It seems to be everyone for themselves! Ive had so many near misses. I wish my boss would put cameras in the cabs of the trucks!

Ive always had the thinking of you stay in the inside and then move out to the out side as you pass the exit before the one you want.

I know how ya feel about it, I had on div just a couple of week ago sat in the left lane as we got to the roundabout, I was in the right hand lane and was going down Hyndburn Rd, he only went right round the roundabout and I think he went up Milnshaw lane - he was also on the phone

I would not even dream of going into the second lane for that one. Men drivers

I would take the second lane if I was going down Hyndburn Rd. If you are supposed to stay on the inside lane until your exit what's the point of having a second lane ?

For drivers that are going further than 12 o 'clock .. this is clearly only about 11 o'clock.

You always have to keep your eye on your left mirror to view if people coming out of other exits may be carrying on round a roundabout. Just an instinct. What pees me off is drivers who never indicate at roundabouts.

If I am on unknown roundabouts and can see that drivers are coming up on my left with no intention of turning left, then will go around again, knowing I should have been in the left lane to begin with. Always best though to keep in the left lane if the sign indicates straight across.. better safe than sorry. (unless large roundabouts where the lane is marked for turning left only of course)

Because many people don't know which lane to be it it should be marked up. Why would they save the inside lane for people going up Milnshaw lane and going to Homebase/petrol station.

The lanes should be marked to help improve traffic flow.

I personally think that the outside lane should be for everything before Hyndburn Road, the inside lane should be for Hyndburn Road and the ones after it.

I think that would make best use of the roundabout and improve traffic flow.

If you think about it, why would they have created a whole lane from the lights at the top down to the roundabout for people going to Homebase/Petrol Station. Not many will go down there for Milnshaw Lane, unless you are going to Aldi.

It was the same at Whitebirk. You come from the motorway to the roundabout at McDonalds. It's obvious they put 2 lanes there so the left is to Intack and the right is to Blackburn. The number of people who use the left lane for Blackburn and think the right hand lane was built solely for the minute number of drivers going to The Range is unbelievable.

Isn't that the wrong way round

I meant inside of roundabout so I see what you mean. Left lane before Hyndburn Road, right lane including and after Hyndburn Road I meant. It was late and I had just got in from work.

I never understand why people come down Milnshaw Lane, then up Eastgate past the tax office? Surely it`s quicker to go straight down Whalley Road?

Re: Town centre roundabout.

I always believed that when a road across a roundabout is a continuation of a road before a roundabout you should get in the correct lane before approaching the roundabout and then follow that lane through.

This is particularly important when the road at the other side of the roundabout is very short leading up to traffic lights.

Re: Town centre roundabout.

I think the concensus is: either please yourself, or wait until the council make the first lane left and the second lane straight on and right turn. But if you divide the roundabout into 6 including the car park, that makes Hyndburn road the fourth, I would say Hynburn Road should be the right lane. To give an example, at the roundabout on junction 8 from haslingden, lanes split into 3, people use lane 1 to go straight on, but the traffic in lane 2 have a perfect right to go into the fast lane of the m65 from there, that is another disaster waiting to happen. Rant over, thanks for answering.
