The army?
Just wondered if anyone here has ever been in or considered joining the army. If so what do you think about it, was it a good experience would you recommend it? If you didnt join what put you off? Been considering joining for a while as i think it would be something i would really enjoy doing. Also how hard is it to get in. Any opinions or advice welcome.

Re: The army?
I considered the Military, wanted to see the world get what appeared to be a better life, build a future etc, but taking orders and standing to attention never sat at ease with me. So, I joined the Merchant Navy ( in the late 70’s ) It satisfied my hunger to see some of the world, admittedly mostly dockland areas, not all that nice. No military thing tho, get up in a morning, chuck yer shorts on an dive in the pool. Most merchant ships have pools these days, the bar is dirt cheap, the grub is good, the accommodation has A/C, the work can be hard but it builds you up and you get a cracking tan.

Re: The army?
Got a grandson in Army and a Grand-daughter in navy, two more grand-sons hoping to join Army soon, the one's already serving love it, grandson done a tour in iraq last Christmas is now hoping to go on a sniper course. I say go for it you'll soon find out if it is the life for you before you finally committ yourself.

Re: The army?
Id think i would be upset if my partner wanted to join the army, especially if i have just had a kid!!
why would they want to leave you to join?? i dont get it:confused: |
Re: The army?
Thats the only bad point to it at the moment for me, it would mean being away from my girlfriend and my son. But i really do think i would enjoy it as i feel it would teach me a lot about life, also being away for weeks at a time with nowhere to spend my money means id actually be able to save up lol. Sent off for the info pack last night so hopefully will be lots of information in that.

Re: The army?
My brother is in the RAF he has been in for about 6 years. He got in when he was 28 (very late) but he thoroughly enjoyed it. You have to do a load of physicals and test but it was well worth it to him. He has just been posted to the Falklands and over the last couple of years he has got married and they have had a baby. He is missing family life badly. But if you dont have a family then i dont see why you shouldnt at least enquire about it.

Re: The army?
Hi Speedy
As you prob know from my posts my lad is in the army . He has bad days and good days as with any job , i hate it but he loves it, hes tried to come out twice and backed down both times . he cant tear himself away . He has a lot of good mates and loves being posted to operational zones purely so he can save up. IMO the army is either for you or not and you have 13 weeks to make your mind up . although my lad always says his basic training were hell and although its still hard work if you get thru that it becomes more bearable. by the way my lad is a driver/ rad ops . good luck with your decision . |
Re: The army?
Just recieved my info pack today not had a proper look through it yet but from what i have seen it looks really good. Will send off the interest form and go down to the army careers office and see what they say, just need to work out which job i fancy now lol, too much choice but atleast it means there will more than likely be a suitable job for me.
