Bin men and tips the etiquette these days
I'm just wondering how we go about it now that we have two different teams of refuse collectors, we have the wheelies one week and the greenies the next.
So who am I supposed to tip? Do I Tip the wheelie? Tip the greenie? Split the tip in half 50, 50 each? Or double the amount this year and leave the same generous bonus for each of them? Oh stuff it, my brain hurts thinking about it, I'll do what I traditionally do and ignore both! |
Re: Bin men and tips the etiquette these days
Considering how much rubbish the wheelie ones leave in the road which ends up in my garden, and considering the recyclies NEVER return our newspaper sack so I always have to go and get a new one ......... I think I'll follow your example Less.

i nearly tipped one obnoxious bin-man in the wheely bin a couple of months ago,so dont think the "etiquette" is much of a problem for me.:D

Re: Bin men and tips the etiquette these days
Normally buy 4 cans of lager and stick em in a carrier bag on top of the bin. That way they can argue who gets what!!!

Re: Bin men and tips the etiquette these days
years ago my bin man said to me Merry Christmas I'm the one that empties your bin, I replied Merry Christmas I'm the one that fills it. The only person I tip is the paper lad.

Re: Bin men and tips the etiquette these days
Never tipped the bin men and never will. The ones that used to really pee me off though was the paper lad who delivered the free paper. I never asked for it so why should the cheeky little sod expect a tip ?

Re: Bin men and tips the etiquette these days
When my grand-daughter delivered the free paper they were not allowed to call for tips. so either the lad is pulling a fast one or things have changed.

Re: Bin men and tips the etiquette these days
if you tip the paper boy/girl they usually have to put it in a pot, if you have given the £1 then they will probably get 10p of that... better to tell them to keeop it and not put it in the pot, i had a paper round and one year i ended up with less than i put in..

Re: Bin men and tips the etiquette these days
I've done this for the last ten years. Saw one of the binmen in the pub a few days before they came round and i asked him what would he prefer for the tip and he said a few cans of lager cos money got lost when they were jumping in and out of the wagons, they didnt see it and either left it or chucked it in the bin wagon. Anyway I got them 4 cans of lager and left them on top of the bin in a carrier bag and christmas card attached. I had to go out and the binmen were coming back up the avenue and they stopped and said thanks for the lager they were going to divvy it all up when they got back because a few people had left booze out for them. and a couple of them said they preferred the booze than the money.
