Accrington Area

Hello was wondering if anyone could help me,I was thinking of moving to the accrington area over the next couple of months and was just wondering what the best/worst areas i should consider or avoid. Hope someone can help.

Re: Accrington Area

It's a bit of a difficult subject. Depends on if you are looking to buy or rent and how much you want to pay. I mean if you want to buy an expensive house then there are posh areas like Royds Avenue with some very nice houses.

Was looking to rent somewhere not too expensive

There are often houses to rent in the Willows Lane/Ormerod Street area. It's not bad up here. Houses vary in size, mostly terraced. It's a racially mixed area where people get along well with each other.

However, it's the wrong side of town for the Field of Dreams! ;)

theres some decent avenues on the ribblesdale estate (council) one or two dodgy but handy for the Crown n Town, was probably the best estate in accy long ago, but still some ok n some nice folk up that way, hope that helps.:)

Would you really want a football league ground near your house, though? All those people trooping up and down Willows Lane. Then again, it'd be just like old times on Sultan Street for you!

WillowTheWhisp 11-01-2008 09:45

Re: Accrington Area

Ah the good old days in Sultan Street - I remember my Mum saying lets get back from shopping before the football lets loose or it was like swimming against the tide trying to get up Sultan Street when they were all coming down!

Wouldn't most people head off down Ormerod Street though? Make the exit locations to direct them down that way and my problem is solved.
:)

I shall advise Eric Whalley of your requirements, should the need ever arise! ;)

Can I have a special area in the stand with posh seats just for me and Busman? (We could have a tunnel direct from the house!)

Oh dear, sorry Kev, this isn't helping your house hunting is it? :o

I'm sure Eric would be happy to oblige!

Just to get back on track, Kev, maybe you should consider Clayton? Quite a lot of terraced houses, so there may be some for rent, it's handy for the ground and some good boozers, too! :D

Where are where are the good boozers Wynonie ? Point me in the right direction. Apart from maybe the Hare and Hounds and The Hyndburn, the rest are sad.

Not a bad area though Kev.

The Greyhound, Albion, Volunteers and Lamb. Now, admittedly, your tastes may be somewhat more sophisticated than mine, Kate, but Kev may, like myself, wish to spend his time propping up a bar and chewing the fat about football.

...and any of the above pubs are far better than the Leaking Boot in Cleethorpes!

Ok, Wynonie, fair do's .. can't see me propping up a bar talking footie.

Ha ha You been to the leaking boot?you poor thing! Still at least you didnt venture to the "Gaza Strip" in grimsby which is a row of chain pubs near the bus station where many a fight takes place or a death(Someone drunk fell into nearby river) on a saturday night:)

Never ventured into Grimsby. Kev. Got off at Cleethorpes station, went to the chippy, walked on the front, went to the Leaking Boot, went to the match. went back to the station and came home...that was enough for me!

I live in Clayton too housing is ok but limtied on shops (apart from take-aways theres PLENTY) and no banks only Post Office on Barnes Sq. Kev ask away that the only way you'll get answers LOL

Re: Accrington Area

Springhill area is a bit of an inbetweeny place. It's quite far from the town centre if you're walking but not bad for getting to Ossy Mills. There are some decent residents as well as some iffy. To me it feels a bit claustrophobic though with the streets being fairly narrow and no gardens.

panther 16-01-2008 09:27

springhill is ok if ya a chav, and dont give a toss what ya house looks like, if ya house proud dont bother:D;)

Presumably it's Brisbane St, other side of Dill Hall lights to Stanley, about a 10 minute walk.

WillowTheWhisp 16-01-2008 17:16

Re: Accrington Area

Whalley Road is quite nice but can be a very busy road at times. Brisbane Street is in Clayton le Moors but as Dave says it's within walking distance of the Crown and Stanley.

I reckon if the house and occupants are OK, you could be onto a winner there, Kev. A decent pub in both directions (Hare & Hounds and Greyhound), a good selection of takeaways and just up the road lies the Field of Dreams. Just the thing for a young feller!

lol yes i'm pretty sane and quiet i think:D

Wynonie Harris 16-01-2008 21:19

Re: Accrington Area

Ossy's not bad...some cracking pubs and recent inspection tours have revealed that most of them haven't gone down the nick, like many others in the area. Big drawback is that it's way over on the other side of town from the FES, although there is a direct bus service there. Probably best to check out Brisbane Street first.

No, you not mistaken Ber .. is an unadopted road .. summat in the Observer, maybe couple of weeks ago. Residents had previously complained about litter. etc., but how it had improved in the last 6 months. Still a decent area though Madkev .. so go take a look and make your own mind up.

aint a mudtrack exactly, but its unadopted i.e. big puddles when it rains heavy, few big dips etc, its just before ya get to tht greyhound on same side as the crown, runs behind Whalley Rd,hope that helps. just 1 row of terraced.

madkev 25-02-2008 10:16

Re: Accrington Area

hi there i had a lot of fun looking at the first property, i get there at 10.30 no-one to be seen except for the builders and no estate agent! so i phone the estate agents and they say feel free to look round no apology for not being there which annoyed me as i had just drove for over 2hrs to have a look ,i did have a look but it wasn't that great inside the property as it was a bit damp in areas, i looked at two more last week but when i got there the estate agent advised me against the one in francis street as the bathroom was covered in mould and condensation!! i did have a look at it it was a shame as it was a nice property apart from the bathroom, the other property im not too sure about. i still planning on moving and will be in accy tommorow for the brentford match so im planning on looking at some more on wednedsay, ill let you know how i get on,maybe even see you in the crown on tuesday if you are in there.:)

Wynonie Harris 26-02-2008 08:42

Re: Accrington Area

Sadly not, MadKev. If I finish work in time to get there, I will, after the match, be making a mad dash to the station to get the last train back to Manchester! Hope your househunting goes OK.
