Accrington Area
Hello was wondering if anyone could help me,I was thinking of moving to the accrington area over the next couple of months and was just wondering what the best/worst areas i should consider or avoid. Hope someone can help.

Seen your profile piccy kev...Huncoat's a nice place :D:D

Re: Accrington Area
It's a bit of a difficult subject. Depends on if you are looking to buy or rent and how much you want to pay. I mean if you want to buy an expensive house then there are posh areas like Royds Avenue with some very nice houses.

Re: Accrington Area
There are often houses to rent in the Willows Lane/Ormerod Street area. It's not bad up here. Houses vary in size, mostly terraced. It's a racially mixed area where people get along well with each other.

Re: Accrington Area
theres some decent avenues on the ribblesdale estate (council) one or two dodgy but handy for the Crown n Town, was probably the best estate in accy long ago, but still some ok n some nice folk up that way, hope that helps.:)

Re: Accrington Area
Ah the good old days in Sultan Street - I remember my Mum saying lets get back from shopping before the football lets loose or it was like swimming against the tide trying to get up Sultan Street when they were all coming down!
Wouldn't most people head off down Ormerod Street though? Make the exit locations to direct them down that way and my problem is solved. :) |

Re: Accrington Area
Can I have a special area in the stand with posh seats just for me and Busman? (We could have a tunnel direct from the house!)
Oh dear, sorry Kev, this isn't helping your house hunting is it? :o |
Re: Accrington Area
I'm sure Eric would be happy to oblige!
Just to get back on track, Kev, maybe you should consider Clayton? Quite a lot of terraced houses, so there may be some for rent, it's handy for the ground and some good boozers, too! :D |

Re: Accrington Area
they closed it down a few months ago i think, only ever been in there once, and it was dead
|
Re: Accrington Area
It was pretty lively last time I went in, but must admit it was around two years ago. Can't believe the rate at which these pubs are closing down...a tragedy!!

Re: Accrington Area
Never ventured into Grimsby. Kev. Got off at Cleethorpes station, went to the chippy, walked on the front, went to the Leaking Boot, went to the match. went back to the station and came home...that was enough for me!

Re: Accrington Area
whats Sharples Street like any ideas?
|
Re: Accrington Area
Terraced houses, no garden.
|
Re: Accrington Area
Sharples Street is in the Springhill area.
|
Re: Accrington Area
used to be ok round there, now though i cant really say. heard it got a bit iffy, but thats second hand.;)
|
Re: Accrington Area
thanks ive just been told its a bit iffy round there aswell ,hope you don't mind me asking all these questions
|
Re: Accrington Area
havent read all the posts but what about clayton...its very quiet where I live - just off atlas street...
|
Re: Accrington Area
cant say much for the hare and hounds but the housing around the area
is ok and varied, terraced , new build, and semi detached :mosher: |
Re: Accrington Area
I live in Clayton too housing is ok but limtied on shops (apart from take-aways theres PLENTY) and no banks only Post Office on Barnes Sq. Kev ask away that the only way you'll get answers LOL
|
Re: Accrington Area
thanks all. will look into those today then:),will let you know how i get on.
|
Re: Accrington Area
Springhill area is a bit of an inbetweeny place. It's quite far from the town centre if you're walking but not bad for getting to Ossy Mills. There are some decent residents as well as some iffy. To me it feels a bit claustrophobic though with the streets being fairly narrow and no gardens.
|
Re: Accrington Area
springhill is ok if ya a chav, and dont give a toss what ya house looks like, if ya house proud dont bother:D;)
|
Re: Accrington Area
theres a house share on whalley road just off brisbane road ,any ideas ?thats near the stanley boys right?

Re: Accrington Area
Whalley Road is quite nice but can be a very busy road at times. Brisbane Street is in Clayton le Moors but as Dave says it's within walking distance of the Crown and Stanley.
|
Re: Accrington Area
i would say thats about as good an area as any, in the range yer looking madkev, thats my opinion anyway.:)
|
Re: Accrington Area
I reckon if the house and occupants are OK, you could be onto a winner there, Kev. A decent pub in both directions (Hare & Hounds and Greyhound), a good selection of takeaways and just up the road lies the Field of Dreams. Just the thing for a young feller!
|
Re: Accrington Area
madkev why not try ossy? ....just as good as accy:D

Re: Accrington Area
Ossy's not bad...some cracking pubs and recent inspection tours have revealed that most of them haven't gone down the nick, like many others in the area. Big drawback is that it's way over on the other side of town from the FES, although there is a direct bus service there. Probably best to check out Brisbane Street first.

Re: Accrington Area
rofl at how the location is judged relative to it's proximity to a certain field.:D

Not having much look with this brisbane road one,the website Homesearch from the accrington observer property page which i found it on keeps saying error when it tells me to click on the view the agents website for more details! typical.I'll let you know more soon. thanks for all your responses by the way.

Re: Accrington Area
still looking for places,i think its best if i come down and checked out the properties in the area in person one day and call into a few estate agents, I stopped over last night at the norwood after the match was called off, it was great knowing i was sleeping just yards away from my favourite place:),

Re: Accrington Area
whats walton street like anyone?
|
Re: Accrington Area
One minute's walk from the Field of Dreams.
One minute's walk from the Crown. Five minute's walk from Oaklea, Grey Horse, Greyhound and chippy. Paradise! Snap it up! :D |

So what happened, MadKev? Was it a dump...or have you had second thoughts about moving to Accy?
|
Re: Accrington Area
hi there i had a lot of fun looking at the first property, i get there at 10.30 no-one to be seen except for the builders and no estate agent! so i phone the estate agents and they say feel free to look round no apology for not being there which annoyed me as i had just drove for over 2hrs to have a look ,i did have a look but it wasn't that great inside the property as it was a bit damp in areas, i looked at two more last week but when i got there the estate agent advised me against the one in francis street as the bathroom was covered in mould and condensation!! i did have a look at it it was a shame as it was a nice property apart from the bathroom, the other property im not too sure about. i still planning on moving and will be in accy tommorow for the brentford match so im planning on looking at some more on wednedsay, ill let you know how i get on,maybe even see you in the crown on tuesday if you are in there.:)
|
Re: Accrington Area
Sadly not, MadKev. If I finish work in time to get there, I will, after the match, be making a mad dash to the station to get the last train back to Manchester! Hope your househunting goes OK.
