Sorry but I cannot for the life of me fathom how it is worked out. I have been overpaid, underpaid and I never knew if it was right in the end.

I don't get it any more as I haven't got any children at nursery now.

I am told it is child based, but that payment for work, working tax credit etc reflect on it, but you can get the child tax credits if your on benefits, so it must be based on children. Your children don'tneed to be at nursery if you are working, your nursery fees are taken into account.

Income based. Best way is to try the calculator based on what you have for one child then try it again for 2 children and see what the difference is.
