Bogs and Beds

Hi All
Does any one know if there were any lodging houses in Oswaldtwistle fro 1860 onwards. I do, now of two that were in Accrington around the 1910/30's, Harry Duffs Good Beds down Bull Bridge, and the New Model Lodging House in Pit St Acc.

Also where were the Toilets besides Dutton St, and next to the Railway arch in Blackburn Rd.
Retlaw.

Just been doing some family tree researching, and through the 1881 census (which is about the only one you can get free..) came across a lodging house in Oswaldtwistle, 20, Mill Lane. Had 27 residents at the time of record.

Recently Park 381 gave us a link to a conservation doc about Church.
There was an extensive history section and in it there was mention of a lodging house opposite Hargreaves Warehouse on Blackburn Rd

Will take that as a back handed compliment or did you mean we will pee in the street now ... :D

Tell you what you never see now .. a mother holding up her child over a grate to have one (usually a girl on the 'holding'; boys only need to stand and aim through the grid..:D) .. used to an acceptable and regular sight years ago.
