Off topic, sorry, but when it used to be open there was a plaque, naming the various hills visible from the panorama, and on the bottom it said who donated the land to be a picnic area, I think it named one of the Proctor farming family, if my memory serves me well.

I read the council now say they don't know who owns it, which is a load of rubbish, and more than a little frightening if true, and doesn't bode well for any other records H.B.C. are supposed to be keepin on our behalf.

Up until it's recent closure the bins were emptied by somebody from the Countryside Alliance.

I also find it hard to understand how the Council does not know who owns land in its Borough. Then again LCC are not sure either. It looks like it is owned by United Utilites but it would cost too much money to reopen it due to the constant problems up there. Fly tipping being one of them.

That's what they're trying to say. I doubt very much the land was given to the water authority by the farmer.

Yet again another amenity vanishes.

The same way Oswald House, at the bottom of Rhyddings Street, was given to the council, and which was used as a museum, before they sold it off.

I must admit I was going to ask the dog warden if he could sort the area out but the lights went out a couple of minutes after the meeting ending so I did not get chance
