Railcards?

I've just accepted a new job offer which I'm really excited about - the only downside is that it's in Burnley Town Centre :(.

I don't drive (failed 3 times for speeding ), so the easiest way for me to get there is by train from Church & Ossy station to Burnley Central. Can anyone give me some advice or share any tips to get the travel costs down or what can railcards do? I'm clueless :D!

Re: Railcards?

I travel each day from Accy to Preston and have an annual pass which cost £1163 which works ourt about £4.30 per day instead of £6.60 per day so its quite a saving. I think if I bought a weekly ticket the average cost would be about £5.60 per day. The savings are very similar for weekly, monthly and quarterly the only real savings are for an annual pass.

If you get weekly or monthly passes you may not save if you are not working due to hols etc

Accy station were very helpful giving mr all the different options, its worth a call

With being on jury service this week I've been buying a day return Accrington to Burnley Central for £3.20 x 5 = £16 which isn't that bad but as I'm not paying I didn't bother asking if there was a cheaper option, sorry.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Apparently I can get a season ticket which will save me around £10 a month, not much but it's something!

I've registered with the Shared Wheels site- with no luck so far :( - unless there's anyone on here who works in Burnley! :D

Re: Railcards?

TBH you will probably bump into someone when you actually start. I work 5 miles teh other side of knutsford and live in accy. Out of over 10 years I've been travelling I reckon its less than 1 year that I haven't had someone to share with even if its only 1/2 days a week

Burnley should be a walk in teh park to find someone. Perhaps if you give an idea of what area of accy you live and what hours you will be working someone nearby might be grateful for teh shared petrol/diesel costs.

Re: Railcards?

I have a disabled rail pass - i got this because i am refused a driving licence and i get a third off. Costs £18 a year and if you have someone travelling with you then they get a third discount as well - theyre classed as your carer.
