Is Fern an hypocrite?

found this question on a website......
Fern Britton has come under fire after it emerged that her significant weight loss was as the result of a gastric band operation that she underwent two years ago, and not due to healthy eating as she claimed. As the face of healthy snack foods Ryvita, do you think Fern should have owned up to the op sooner?

what ya think?

I think everyone should just ****** off, so what if she had the op?, is it a crime?

some people just like to whinge:rolleyes:

I say :alright: to fern, why should she apologize!

She looked better before she lost a load of weight anyway. Seems very hypocritical to me.

When I read about this it made me laugh. It's so typical of human nature - people start telling you how well you've done so you agree with them (in all sorts of contexts) and a little bit of truth adjustment can creep in. Then I started to wonder why she hadn't said from Day 1, "I've had a stomach band fitted". To me it's not something to be ashamed of and, if she thought it was, why have it done?

I've got to say I thought she was very attractive when she was bigger, just as much as now, but I suppose the health factor counts too so I can understand her motives. As for being the "face of Ryvita", has she ever said, "I lost weight by eating this stuff."? If not, it doesn't matter.

It seems like a national sport in this country for the media to build up celebrities so that they can, at a later date, knock them down.
For goodness sake leave the woman alone...it is no-ones business but hers.
I like the woman...she seems far more 'human' than many other presenters...and why shouldn't she make the most of herself?

Re: Is Fern an hypocrite?

even if u have a band fitted you still have to eat healthy so she wasnt lying , its also none of anyones buisness what medical procedure she has done

just another frenzy stirred up by the press because its been a quiet week for terrorism and the royals havnt blundered yet

Re: Is Fern an hypocrite?

I think that they should all leave her alone. Whatever surgery she has had done is personal to her, and it should be left at that.

Just because she is in the public eye doesn't mean that she has to disclose personal facts about medical procedures she has had done.

I like Fern and even if she did have a gastric band fitted so what?? Nobody can detract from the fact that she has been doing sponsored bike rides for charity in India in the last few years. Leave her alone

im pretty sure if she had vaginal warts removed and went on tv shows tellin eveyone about it these idiots critisising her would be screraming for her to stop

are these idiots that are critiscising her upset because they saw her as a role model and spent years getting fat on purpous and now feel betrayed that their role model is now thinner so they now have to be if they want to continue following her

i dont get it at all ,people shoud be supporting her for doing somthing to sort her health out

I think people are missing the point, it wasn't that she had this op done its that she told everybody on This Morning that she had lost the weight by diet and exercise, which was just a small case of an ex porker telling porkies:D

Shes not telling porkies there. Just because you've had a band fitted doesnt mean you can sit there all day doing nothing and stuffing your face and the weight will fall off. You still have to eat healthy and excercise, as she said on This Morning. She also said that she must remember if she ever gets a hernia then she must go straight to the papers to tell them, because god forbid that as someone in the public eye she should keep personal things to herself!!!

I don't think it was quite like that Jaysay.....I don't think she said anything......it was her hubby who told the media that she had done it by diet and exercise.......and yes, in a way she had......she had done a lot of charity bike riding and trained for that and because of the surgery (which incidentally is none of our business) her intake of calories had dropped.

What IS the big deal about it anyway...if she had done nothing she could have been seen to be 'letting herself go', but because she does something to help her weight loss she is damned.
What is the difference between that and using nicotine patches to stop smoking?....would she need to tell us all about that too?

Re: Is Fern an hypocrite?

I think advertising is always very deceiving, and this is a brilliant example of why people shouldn't believe everything they see. A celebrity being the face of a product like Ryvita and losing so much weight is clearly an implication that she backs that brand, and after losing weight people will assume that it is the Ryvita which has been a factor of that...

I think MORALLY she should have been open about it in the first place personally, but at the same time I don't see why she should be held to blame if people believe everything they see on the telly.

Will she now have to wear a real fat suit, when she does the next advert for Ryvita?

I don't blame her trying everything she could to lose weight. I wish I could. It's driving me up the wall. Got the water retention back with a vengeance too now. I know two people who are going to have this done and I'm beginning to wish I could. I'm fed up of not getting anywhere, or not getting very far. I've ground to a halt.

Yes, the joke was she really was slim, and wore a fat suit when she was doing her show.

What will happen now she really is slim?

I think there are far more important issues... however she should have just kept her gob shut ( had she done that she would not have been so fat in the first place)
