Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
I actually like the cheap, not very creamy, vanilla stuff you get from Sainsburys. Other than that a rum and raisin choc-ice, with dark chocolate, goes down very nicely.
I can't stand Mr Whippy, it's like cold squirty cream. :( |
Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
Not a big fan of sweet stuff but generally the cheap stuff is just as good if not better than the big names.
|
Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
Haagen-Daaz Strawberry Cheesecake or Sainsbury's Mango Sorbet

Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
Donkey's years ago my aunt in Monkseaton used to make her own ice cream. This was long before the days of Ice Cream Maker machines. She made it with beaten eggs and jersey milk and it went in the ice cube tray in her fridge. It always had slivers of ice in it and I absolutely loved it. :D

Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
I don't eat much ice cream, but I like to keep a tub of Mackies (of Scotland) Traditional Luxury Dairy Ice Cream in my freezer.
I buy it at Sainsburys, but I think that most of the bigger supermarkets stock it. Unfortunately, I haven't found any in Shanghai yet, so my freezer is bare. |
Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
I agree with KSH, Holdens is hard to beat.
|
Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
Not a lover of ice cream but on the odd occasion I do have one I like Choc Mint Chip from a small shop in Grassington.

Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
No, I can't say I am partial to ice cream.....but if I am forced to choose it has to be boring old vanilla....but only a very small cone!
|
Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
what about Birtwells? They used to come round every Sunday afternoon with the horse and cart...and the ice cream came in one flavour - vanilla...but you could have a shake of raspberry vinegar on it. I was just a child and liked ice cream way back then.

Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
Green and Blacks is nice... and organic for those into that stuff.
Anyone been the ice cream shop in accy inbetween bus stop and clives ? It any good ? |
Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
If it has to be supermarket stuff, then choc chip, smarties, rum and raisin, most of the carte dor stuff, trouble is, when I start, I can easily finish the whole tub.

Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
They may have called it 'blood' but I knew it as raspberry vinegar......maybe they thought if they asked a sweet little girl(which is what I was then.....50 thump years ago)
I would take fright and run......maybe only the boys got 'blood' :D |

Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
I think that is possible......it was definitely vinegar(raspberry) it was thin and it was in a vinegar shaker...it wasn't the thick gloopy stuff like they put on today....and it wasn't the livid red colour either.

She made icecream in the late 40's and early 50's. Her house was opposite St Pauls Church on Catlow Hall St. Such practices wouldn't be allowed nowadays for public health reasons because all places where food is prepared for sale have to be inspected and approved. |
Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
Robinsons Dairy Ice, Leyland. They used to have Ice Cream vans and I remember as a child waithing for them to come down our street, we used to get my mums mixing bowl filled with it. Still call in now and then for one. Other than that Hagen Das, Belgian Choc Chip. yum

Re: Ice-cream...whats Your Favourite?
I've had Mackie's vanilla a few times from the supermarket (Asda and Tesco) and it's really nice, with an 'old fashioned' taste. Looking at their website it looks as though they're small-scale enough to still be legitimate ;)
