who cycles to work ?

since I got my new toy..errr.. bike in april I have cycled to work every day - rain hail, wind and shine...and I love it..
5 days a week - 15 miles a day - 75 miles a week - 300 miles a month - 1200 miles since getting it :)
although the bike cost me £500 to buy its saved me about £70+ a month on bus fares to work into the bargain...and I get to work quicker than what the bus would get me there normally in the morning and at night I am 4 mins behind the early bus I never caught - my record time home is 31 mins from accrington road burnley to clayton - I should be getting fitter but I dont feel it although my legs and stomach are nicely toned !:p
I have been nearly ran over by a van which chose to test the flexibility of his wing mirror on my helmet, attacked by geese, swans and dogs but I still wouldnt give it up cos when its a nice sunny morning and no ones around its lovely out there on the canal....

so who else cycles to work and enjoys it ?

Re: who cycles to work ?

I usually cycle to work though it all depends on how I feel and what time it is!! It is only a 5-10 minute journey on the bike and the majority is along the cyclepath from Church to Accy alongside the railway so cars are not really a problem (unless they just pull up in front of you as you ride along a joint cycle lane/footpath - but that's another story!). I love cycling but the bike is a bit rickety now, could do with a new one really.
If I don't cycle then I will generally walk or, if on the rare occasion I just can't be bothered, I'll catch the bus - a rare treat indeed!!

I cycled to wprk when I worked in burnley, but only did this for a few days during the strikes many years ago, was only a teenager then but I have never done it again, it nearly killed me!!!!! (yes, I was and still am not very fit!)

I cycle sometimes.......... only mine has a rather large and powerful V twin engine in it :D

If god meant us to get tired he wouldn't have given us brains to invent teh engine!!! :D

Spug rides his bike every day to work and back. Has panniers on it so he can chuck his shopping in. The only problem he has is a well toned backside - he's complaining that theres no padding!!! So gg you know what eventually will happen you wont have no padding on your backside and feel every bump.

I am already past that bit, my arse is nice and firm !!
and whilst we are on about this thread this morning I had the pleasure of a friend running alongside me for 20 seconds or so whilst going along the canal it was a ....

female deer !!! - it was drinking at the canal and I spooked it as I cycled up the path, it then ran off along side me as it ran on the path side of the fence which it couldnt get over - so there I was with this wild deer bounding next to me - it came to a broken bit of fence and it was over it and away across the field to the trees...I was gobsmacked to say the least, really made my day...you dont get that sitting on the bus !
