Two Ronnies -v- Morecambe and Wise

Eric and Ernie were very, very funny but I think the 2 Ronnies were funnier. Their sketches, mostly written by Ronnie Barker, were so diverse and so clever and their "musical" ones were superb. I think Barker and Corbett, together, were under-rated comic geniuses. Which double act do you prefer?

it has got to be the two Ronnies....some of their stuff was daft, but some of it was very clever.

I remember the two Ronnies more than I do the other couple .... and they were really funny .... timeless humor.

I don't believe that Barker and Corbett were under-rated at all.

For me, both sets of comedians were excellent in their own fields.

So you think they get the recognition they deserve?

Certainly. They are held in high regard and get regular repeats on various channels. Their 'fork handles' sketch was voted the best comedy sketch of all time. What higher recognition is there?

I think we do, it's just different. Comedy has moved on. It's had to.

I know what you mean but the popular vote always seems to go to Morecambe and Wise. I think Ronnie Barker was the most versatile comic actor, certainly in the last 50 years, and Ronnie Corbett was so professional in everything he did. Superb!

Eric and Ernie brought me sunshine - Two Ronnies lit up my life with four candles.

Both are brilliant but Eric Morecambe has the edge for me because he could be spontaneously funny without a script.

Two Ronnies for me........Morcombe & Wise came a poor second (couldn't stand Ernie Wise) didn't find him funny at all.

Maybe Ernie wasn't funny because he was the straight guy, Eric was a comody genius, as was Ronnie Barker, but to me they were both great in their own right

Barker and Corbett also both worked very well separately from each other as well as the double act. I liked Ronnie Corbett's sitcom "Sorry", and of course Barker had several sitcoms, all very different from each other. I liked his rather more obscure one "Clarence", where he was a short-sighted removal man, but I really love "Open All Hours". I used to know a shopkeeper just like Arkwright. :D

Re: Two Ronnies -v- Morecambe and Wise

As A double act I prefered morecambe and wise, but I also think Ronnie Barker was the funniest and most talented comedy writer and actor that has ever been. I own all the open all hours and porridge episodes and always watch anything with him in. I grew up on both comedic pairs and loved them both, but I also grew up on another comedy pairing aswell, Russ abbott and Bella Emberg, I was lucky enough to see them live and they were right up there in watchability and chuckles!!!!

I spent most of my childhood and teenage years watching comedy instead of kids programmes, my uncle was and still is comedy obsessed, and seeing as I spent a tremendous amount of time with him, I think it rubbed of on me!!!!
