My youngest daughter is planning a wedding in Slovania....Lake Bled.
The meaning of the word Bled is coming through in my ear trumpet.
I said in a moment of brash 'Father loves Daughter' pique
"Get married where you like love" and it is going to cost me a bloody fortune.

In addition to the ones already mentioned, you might want to look at Eaves Hall, Stanley House and Mitton Hall. If you PM your venue budget to me, I can come up with more if these don't fit.

When I'm putting forward suggestions for venues, as you'd expect I'm going to think of the most photogenic places, but you should consider other factors too:

Personally, I'd avoid places where they will do multiple weddings on the same day, but that cuts out venues like The Dunk, where they have a pretty slick system for keeping weddings separate. A lot of places charge a large additional fee for exclusive use- something that might happen by itself anyway.

Find out exactly what you'd be paying for, well in advance. You can cover yourself by insisting that any extras not declared up front will not be paid. Corkage is the most common, but most places charge for cutting the cake up too! I've attended a wedding where the venue proprietor would not allow other firework companies or classic car chauffeurs work at his venue. He has his own cars and a son who likes exploding things, so if you use his venue, he has to supply those services! He wanted to charge us £20 for plugging in a phone charger!

When you choose your venue, look at the staff as well as the fittings and the architecture. You need to be sure they'll look after your guests. One of my neighbours chose Turf Moor even though she can't stand football. The reason? She'd attended a couple of weddings there as a guest and was struck by how well the staff there looked after everyone, not just the bride and groom.

Don't worry too much about the quality of the food. While it's important that the food is good, you'll never please everyone. There'll always be someone complaining "rice is for puddings" or "it's not as good as a roast" or "there's not enough" so in that respect, just make sure you like the food.

You're already on the road to having a brilliant wedding by asking for recommendations, but make sure you find out about the bad as well as the good. Do not delude yourself: No venue is perfect, and with weddings even the slightest mishap can get blown out of proportion and, if you let it gnaw at you, can ruin your day. At Eaves Hall, the banqueting suite is L shaped and that might be a problem during speeches. At Stanley House, the Maitre D' has this really annoying habit of sticking the knife in the cake* before the B&G even get to it. Mitton Hall is quite dark in the picturesque old part, which might be a problem if you're having video of the day. These will be minor issues to some people, but pretty bl**dy major ones to others...

Hope this helps. By all means come along to the studio (had to get the plug in somewhere), even if you've already chosen your photographer. Have a look at some albums and see how these places fare when they're part of your memories of the day. I can also tell you in private who the idiot with the electricity surcharge is... :D

* Did you know that the initial cutting of the cake is supposed to signify the couple losing their virginity? Not much fun if a Maitre D' has already been there first!

I had my wedding reception at the Peel Park Inn in Accrington last April and it was wonderful - Sue, the landlady put on a marvellous buffet in the conservatory, but I'm not sure how many she can cater for.
